Position Overview

We are in search of a highly qualified AWS Cloud Information System Security Officer (ISSO) to oversee a vital project involving the migration of systems from on-premises to cloud environments. This position demands a strategic mindset, extensive knowledge of cloud security frameworks, practical experience in security methodologies, and the capability to collaborate effectively with IT architects and project managers to ensure the secure and compliant transition of applications and data to AWS.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct the formulation, execution, and upkeep of security policies and procedures in alignment with company standards and compliance mandates for the migration of applications and data to AWS cloud environments.
  • Work alongside cloud architects and project teams to identify and alleviate security risks tied to the migration and cloud deployment processes.
  • Perform regular security evaluations and audits to guarantee adherence to security standards.
  • Create and maintain detailed System Security Plans (SSP) that outline the security controls in place, ensuring compliance with relevant cybersecurity policies, standards, and regulations.
  • Oversee the Authorization to Operate (ATO) process, confirming that all cloud deployments fulfill necessary security criteria and obtain formal authorization prior to activation.
  • Formulate and implement Plans of Action and Milestones (POAM) for addressing identified security vulnerabilities and compliance discrepancies.
  • Act as a conduit between project teams and regulatory authorities to ensure all cloud deployments adhere to applicable laws and regulations.
  • Manage security incidents, providing post-incident analysis and instituting preventive measures.
  • Encourage security awareness within the team and document training status as required.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or a related discipline.
  • Over 10 years of experience in supporting cloud security initiatives, including tasks related to preparing SSPs, documenting security artifacts, participating in security assessments, and resolving POAMs.
  • Experience in implementing the Risk Management Framework (RMF), NIST SP 800-53, Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs), and Security Content Automation Protocol (SCAP) Compliance Checker.
  • Strong comprehension of AWS cloud architecture and its security features.
  • Demonstrated success in managing cloud security for large-scale migrations.
  • Cyber Security Certification.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities, capable of addressing complex, multi-disciplinary security challenges in cloud settings.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, proficient in collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Previous experience as an ISSO in a DoD, federal, or highly regulated environment.
  • Comprehensive understanding of AWS Gov Cloud Infrastructure and the Assessment & Authorization (A&A) process.
  • Extensive experience managing the ATO process for DoD, federal agencies, or other highly regulated sectors.
  • Familiarity with security management tools such as XACTA, E-Mass, and other repositories.
  • Experience with additional cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, Google-Hybrid environments) is advantageous.

Clearance Requirements

U.S. Citizenship with the capability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance.

Work Location

Remote within the United States.

Compensation

The salary range for this position is $112,000 - $141,000, subject to adjustment based on experience, geographic location, and contractual requirements.
