Position Overview:

We are seeking a Principal Cloud Engineer to take on a Subject Matter Expert (SME) role within our organization. This position offers a hybrid work model, requiring only 1 to 2 days on-site. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in maintaining and enhancing existing cloud systems for our clients, particularly within the Department of Transportation. We are looking for an individual with substantial hands-on experience in deploying and configuring workloads across AWS, Azure, or both, who is passionate about contributing to modernization efforts in cloud systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee cloud environments with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, demonstrating expertise in cloud service provider selection, implementation strategies, and application data migration techniques to meet current and future business needs.
  • Hold at least one Professional or Specialty certification from a recognized cloud provider.
  • Provide technical, managerial, and administrative guidance for problem definition, analysis, requirements development, and implementation for complex cloud infrastructure systems.
  • Diagnose and resolve cloud performance issues effectively.
  • Analyze network traffic and develop capacity planning solutions.

Qualifications:

  • 12+ years of experience in information technology, with over 10 years of recent hands-on experience in deploying and configuring workloads within AWS or Azure.
  • Proven experience in designing and implementing cloud architectures.
  • Extensive familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools, including CloudFormation and Terraform.
  • Strong understanding of DevOps best practices and experience with tools such as GitHub, Jenkins, SonarQube, and Artifactory.
  • Hands-on experience managing Kubernetes clusters.
  • Solid troubleshooting skills in enterprise computing and operating systems, including Linux and Windows.
  • Experience in documenting requirements, user stories, and use cases.
  • Able to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic team environment.
  • Professional Architect Certification in AWS or Azure is preferred.

Essential Skills:

  • Expertise in producing Infrastructure as Code (IaC) or Configuration as Code (CaC), ensuring a code-first approach with clear documentation and structure.
  • Collaborate with engineering and development teams to assess and identify optimal cloud solutions.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex performance, security, and technical challenges.
  • Support all application tiers deployed in the cloud, configuring networks, cloud-native services, infrastructure, and access privileges for development teams.
  • Identify opportunities for optimizing cloud consumption and provide strategic direction for addressing these opportunities.
  • Create and update cloud environment configurations to support application workloads, including:
  • Azure: Configuration of Subscriptions, Resource Groups, VNets, Subnets, load balancers, App Services, Azure Batch, Virtual Machines, resource tagging, billing, policy implementation, and security controls.
  • AWS: Configuration of AWS Accounts, IAM Users and Roles, VPCs, subnets, load balancers, Network routes, Transit Gateway, Control Tower, Systems Manager, Config Manager, stack sets, WAF, CloudFront, and Route53.

Clearance Requirements:

Public Trust clearance is required. Candidates must be US Citizens or Green Card holders residing in the US for a minimum of three years.
