Job Summary

CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield is seeking a highly skilled Senior Cloud Engineer to join our Platform Engineering team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of our organization's information systems that support our business functions.

Key Responsibilities
  • System Administration: Install, tune, upgrade, troubleshoot, and maintain all computer systems relevant to our supported applications, including operating system administration, user account management, disaster recovery strategy, and networking configuration.
  • Incident Management: Develop and implement techniques to prevent system problems, troubleshoot incidents to recover services, and support root cause analysis.
  • Automation and Integration: Automate the installation and configuration of applications in development and production environments, and evaluate new systems by performing in-depth tests, including end-user reviews.
  • System Evaluation and Recommendation: Research software and related products to support recommendations and purchasing, and determine systems integration issues by evaluating components, developing and completing performance tests, and analyzing test data.
  • Knowledge Sharing and Development: Improve engineering job knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, benchmarking state-of-the-art practices, and participating in professional societies.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology or Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience: 5 years of software, hardware, and/or systems engineering-related experience, with a minimum of 2-5 years of IT experience, including hands-on development and systems engineering background.
  • Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of programming languages and web-based technologies, ability to collaborate to solve technical problems across teams, excellent communication skills, and ability to meet established deadlines and handle multiple customer service demands.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Cloud Experience: Experience in AWS Cloud Automation and Administration, Site Reliability Engineering principles, and Transformation.
  • Technical Skills: Experience with Terraform plans, Ansible playbooks, Python code, Containerization (Kubernetes), Cloud technologies (AWS, Azure, or Google), DevOps tool chain (Ansible, Jenkins, Artifactory, bitbucket), and technical patterns (IaC, Automated Provisioning/Release, CI/CD).
