Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Environmental Scientist to join our team at Shannon & Wilson. As an Environmental Scientist, you will play a critical role in providing technical expertise and support to our clients in the fields of environmental and geotechnical engineering.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with scientists, engineers, and other technical experts to communicate complex ideas and concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Review and analyze technical reports and proposals, providing recommendations for revisions or changes in approach, scope, format, and risk management.
  • Design, plan, and execute field exploration, testing, and instrumentation programs to gather data and inform environmental assessments.
  • Conduct Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments to identify potential environmental hazards and develop strategies for mitigation.
  • Review, evaluate, and interpret environmental and technical data, preparing summary reports and recommendations for clients.
  • Participate in the development of scopes of service and prepare budgets and proposals to support business development and marketing activities.
  • Interact and communicate with clients, vendors, and staff at all levels in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Support business development and marketing activities, including preparation of cost proposals and presentations to existing and prospective clients.
  • Follow and promote Shannon & Wilson's Quality Assurance, Health & Safety, and Loss Prevention policies and procedures.
  • Manage multiple simultaneous projects and deadlines, adjusting priorities as needed to meet program objectives.
  • Travel and conduct year-round field work, including working hours exceeding 40 hours per week and weekends, as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Geology, Hydrology, Civil or Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, Natural Science, or other Physical Science Degree; Master's Degree preferred.
  • 0-6 years of experience in environmental consulting or a related field.
  • Experience with mathematical terms and equations, as well as basic computer skills, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Desirable Qualifications

  • 40-hour HAZWOPER training and knowledge of RCRA, CERCLA, OSHA, and other federal regulations.
  • Experience sampling soil, groundwater, and other media at contaminated sites.
  • Experience in hazardous waste and hazardous materials management.
  • Experience with environmental remediation technologies.
  • Experience on federal projects (HTRW, AFCEE, etc.).
  • Experience with statistical analyses and fate and transport modeling.
  • Advanced computer skills, including gINT, Access, ArcGIS, and AutoCAD.

Level Placement

Typically, an Environmental Scientist with the required education, experience, and qualifications would be placed at a Shannon & Wilson Professional I, II, III, or IV level, depending on the individual's fit with the company culture and local office.
