Role Summary:

The Environmental Restoration Specialist will possess 2-5 years of expertise in environmental remediation initiatives, ideally with the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) or other federal and state entities. Candidates should demonstrate proficiency in site assessment, characterization, and remediation efforts governed by relevant environmental regulations. The role involves a blend of office, urban, and fieldwork, including potential assignments in various rural regions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work collaboratively with the Project Manager and Lead Scientist to formulate work plans and timelines.
  • Coordinate with the Site Superintendent to implement approved plans.
  • Act as the field environmental scientist for data gathering, site assessments, and remediation tasks aligned with project goals.
  • Maintain detailed field documentation.
  • Conduct site evaluations, including sampling operations.
  • Perform Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments.
  • Review and draft technical reports and proposals, suggesting modifications to approaches or formats as necessary.
  • Engage in the development of project scopes, budgets, and proposals.
  • Exhibit flexibility to undertake additional tasks to support project success.
  • Travel for fieldwork as required, with extended periods in various locations.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Experience in environmental field operations, including contaminated soil sampling and monitoring well activities.
  • Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively within a team.
  • Familiarity with heavy machinery operations.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience in remote environmental settings.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Highly organized and self-driven.
  • Effective time management capabilities.

Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in a scientific or engineering discipline.
  • Qualified Sampler certification from the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation (ADEC).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 40-Hour HAZWOPER certification.
  • OSHA-30 and OSHA-10 certifications.
  • Familiarity with EM385-1-1 standards.
  • Knowledge of environmental cleanup grants and assessments.
  • Experience with Alaska Native Corporations.
  • Understanding of federal regulations including RCRA, CERCLA, OSHA, and EPA.
  • Statistical analysis experience.
  • Experience in hazardous materials surveys.
  • Knowledge of GPS mapping technology.
  • Certification in hazardous materials shipping.
  • AHERA Building Inspector certification.
  • Experience with small disadvantaged business entities.

Position Requirements:

  • Completion of pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.
  • Background check prior to employment.
  • Willingness to obtain 40-Hour HAZWOPER certification.
  • Successful completion of HAZWOPER physical and respirator fit testing.

Physical Requirements:

Must be capable of performing duties both indoors and outdoors, including lifting up to 25 lbs. Ability to work safely in adverse weather conditions is essential. Fieldwork is primarily conducted during specific seasons, which may involve travel via various modes of transportation.
