Responsibilities

The Senior Vice President (SVP) will serve as the principal executive leader of Enterprise Laboratory Services, overseeing daily operations, formulating strategies, executing business plans, managing departmental finances, and nurturing a high-performance, customer-centric culture.

The SVP will be an integral member of the senior leadership team, collaborating across functions to pinpoint growth opportunities, identify new revenue streams, implement productivity enhancements, and drive sustainability initiatives.

Enterprise Laboratory Services (ELS) play a crucial role in NYBCe's operations, providing component manufacturing and testing services. ELS also generates revenue by offering specialized testing services to external clients, including hospitals.

The SVP will be responsible for crafting and executing the strategic vision for the laboratories, focusing on innovation and the development of new products and processes.

The role encompasses all clinical laboratories and support services across divisions, including Infectious Disease Testing, Immunohematology Reference laboratories, Genomics laboratories, specialty laboratories, and Quality Control Laboratories.

The SVP will collaborate with executives across all business lines to align efforts and strategies with organizational objectives.

  • Oversee all laboratory operations, ensuring technical excellence and compliance with quality and regulatory standards.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to laboratory management, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Execute comprehensive operational support to ensure effective implementation of laboratory strategies.
  • Develop and implement a strategic plan for clinical laboratories that aligns with organizational goals.
  • Drive innovation and explore new technologies to enhance testing and manufacturing capabilities.
  • Work closely with laboratory directors to ensure compliance with regulatory standards while maintaining high-quality service.
  • Stay informed on regulatory changes and industry standards to ensure compliance.
  • Maintain open communication with senior leadership to understand emerging needs and initiatives.
  • Develop and execute plans to enhance the customer experience across laboratory operations.
  • Establish enterprise-wide performance metrics to benchmark lab operations against industry standards.
  • Ensure collaboration between laboratory operations and other departments to meet customer expectations.
  • Support the ongoing education of transfusion service partners and staff.
  • Manage departmental budgets and identify cost-saving opportunities.
Qualifications

Education:
B.S./M.S./PhD in Medical Technology or Applied Science, or M.D. with a background in transfusion medicine or related fields. An advanced business degree (MBA, MPA, MHA or equivalent) is highly desirable.

Experience:
A minimum of ten years in blood banking or laboratory management, with at least five years in a leadership role. Relevant published research in peer-reviewed journals is preferred.

Licenses / Certifications:
NYS Lab Technologist preferred. MT (ASCP) certification preferred.

Travel:
Willingness to travel as necessary (estimated 15-25%).

Knowledge:
Strong understanding of GMP compliance, CLIA, State DOH, and FDA regulations. Familiarity with Collective Bargaining Agreements is preferred.

Skills & Abilities:
Demonstrated leadership in operations and process management across various functions, with a proven track record in strategic planning and execution. Ability to lead in a matrix structure, demonstrating financial acumen and experience in capital budgeting. Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and influence at all levels. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a visionary mindset to implement innovative solutions. Proven ability to attract and develop talent while effectively communicating and motivating teams.
