Shelter Support Specialist

Location: Seattle, WA | Schedule: Tuesday-Saturday, 2:00pm-10:30pm

Status: Full-Time/Non-Exempt | Pay: Competitive

The Salvation Army is looking for Shelter Support Specialists to deliver care and assistance to residents in need. This position plays a crucial role in supporting individuals facing immediate challenges and managing crisis and inquiry calls by providing vital information and referrals for food, shelter, and additional resources.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage crisis and inquiry calls, delivering support, information, and referrals to social services.
  • Ensure a secure environment for residents by assisting and enforcing facility guidelines.
  • Conduct regular inspections to identify and rectify hazards, inappropriate conduct, or necessary repairs.
  • Respond to emergencies, taking decisive action within established policy frameworks.
  • Provide crisis intervention and implement security protocols, including alerting authorities when required.
  • Oversee client intake and departure processes in accordance with departmental policies.
  • Guide, support, and supervise clients throughout their stay.
  • Assist in the training of new staff and volunteers.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and represent programs to community organizations with respect.

Education & Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • At least 6 months of experience in public contact or customer service.
  • Experience in social service shelters or residential settings is preferred.
  • Possession of a valid WA Driver's License is preferred.
