Impact of Your Role

The Enterprise Infrastructure Distributed Hosting team at Fidelity is expanding and looking for a Lead Systems Engineer to enhance the Enterprise Server group. Our team is composed of skilled professionals dedicated to utilizing cutting-edge data center technologies to significantly enhance the efficiency of Fidelity's application teams. Our goal is to provide the fastest and most user-friendly technology services.

As a Lead Systems Engineer within Fidelity's Enterprise Infrastructure server environment, you will become a vital member of the Unix Technical Services (UTS) team, engaging in a variety of Unix and Linux operating system administration responsibilities, including complex operational support and problem-solving. You will assist UTS in managing incidents and requests while collaborating extensively with technology partners throughout the Fidelity organization.

This position is designed to cover incident and change management during the US Second shift (11am - 9pm) and will also involve server build and upgrade tasks. The role entails working 10-hour shifts, four days a week, with one weekend day included.

Desired Expertise

  • Proficient in Linux, particularly Redhat Linux versions 7 and 8
  • Experience with HPE and Dell server hardware
  • Knowledge of disk storage management
  • Familiarity with virtualization technologies (Vmware)
  • Experience in on-call support
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for both OS and hardware
  • Proficient in Shell Scripting and Python
  • Experience in Site Reliability Engineering and Cloud technologies is a plus
  • Familiarity with Veritas products such as Storage Foundation/Veritas Cluster Server is advantageous

A Lead Systems Engineer will be responsible for:

  • Engaging in complex, innovative cross-functional projects and various project phases
  • Adhering to departmental technical policies and procedures
  • Working independently on intricate technology projects
  • Managing complex system administration tasks across multiple operating systems
  • Collaborating with vendors to resolve hardware and software challenges
  • Installing third-party software packages as necessary
  • Analyzing the Unix/Linux computing environment to identify efficiency improvements
  • Providing primary support (hardware and software) for all enterprise Unix and Linux servers on a rotational basis
  • Effectively managing and participating in projects involving other teams
  • Preparing technical and project proposals for management review
  • Participating in cross-functional crisis resolution teams as needed
  • Conducting research and analysis to support business unit initiatives
  • Providing on-call support on a rotational basis alongside other systems engineers
