  • Degree in economics, finance, business, mathematics, or a related quantitative field.
  • In-depth knowledge of risk management techniques and valuation frameworks.
  • Strong familiarity with MTM, VaR, and the assessment of position exposures and other risk metrics, particularly within North American power ISOs such as ERCOT, PJM, and CAISO.
  • Comprehensive understanding of power pricing structures, including experience in validating power prices against external benchmarks.
  • Proficiency in Power BI, Python, or other data analysis tools like Alteryx.
  • Ability to maintain high accuracy and efficiency while meeting deadlines.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Flexibility in working hours to accommodate business needs.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective collaboration.

Key Responsibilities

As a member of the Global Risk Control Organization, your responsibilities will include:
  • Leading risk management analysis, monitoring, and reporting for power trading operations, including oversight of open positions, valuation controls, and MTM valuations, with daily explanations of relevant metrics and limits.
  • Coordinating and reviewing trades and pricing in the trading system through deal checks, price validations, curve updates, and data reconciliation. Ensuring timely deal capture and adherence to internal trading limits and risk policies to maintain transaction integrity.
  • Providing insightful analysis regarding risk reporting processes, quantifying commodity exposure, and assessing forward price movements for TGPNA's diverse trading activities. Maintaining and enhancing risk models, testing new calculations, and evaluating model assumptions against market fundamentals.
  • Collaborating closely with traders to identify and articulate the sources of risk within their portfolios.
  • Assisting in the reporting of trading results and positions to senior management.
  • Working with Back Office, Finance, Credit, Legal & Compliance, and Business Unit Control to ensure effective control practices and operational efficiency.
  • Coordinating with Compliance to meet regulatory requirements.
  • Supporting the identification and implementation of process improvements, from system testing to desk-level operations.
  • Identifying operational risks and proposing risk mitigation strategies.
DIMENSIONS:

The position is situated within the Global Risk Control department, reporting to the Middle Office Manager, and focuses on measuring, analyzing, and monitoring the P&L, exposure, and Value At Risk of the Power Trading Desks.

  • The Risk Control Analyst is part of a global team that includes members from Houston, London, and Singapore.
  • Collaboration with Front Office, Operations, Back Office, Finance, Compliance, and Trading System teams across various locations and product types, including Natural Gas, NGL, LNG, Power, and Dry Bulk products.
  • The Middle Office is tasked with calculating profits and losses and managing the trading department's risks, encompassing all aspects of market risk control.
