- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, mathematics, economics, or a related business field (required);
- Master's degree and/or relevant certification in a related area (preferred);
- Comprehensive understanding of the energy sector, commodity trading, macroeconomic principles, risk assessment, and contemporary finance;
- At least 5 years of experience within a mid-office commodity trading environment or as part of a commodity trading team; prior supervisory or leadership experience is preferred;
- Familiarity with North American Gas and/or LNG Markets, including knowledge of natural gas pipeline operations, gas storage, financial and physical trading, shipping, gasification, and other characteristics of natural gas/LNG;
- Strong analytical capabilities;
- Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills;
Key Responsibilities
Your role as a Mid-Office Risk Management Supervisor encompasses:
- Collaborating closely with the Front Office to support the ongoing expansion of the business by delivering precise information regarding the potential risk implications of transactions;
- Cultivating a robust understanding of market structures and key commercial strategies employed within the sector;
- Leading effective risk assessments that facilitate informed commercial decision-making;
- Directly supervising risk control analysts within the Mid-Office department, managing staffing resources and departmental activities, and providing guidance, coaching, and performance evaluations for all direct reports;
- Working in partnership with Back Office, Finance, Credit, Legal, and Internal Control to ensure alignment of risk control practices and compliance policies;
- Collaborating with other leaders to drive necessary improvements in operational excellence;
- Engaging with Trading Systems to ensure enhancements to trading software align with business requirements;
- Monitoring internal limits for Front Office operations, ensuring compliance and proper documentation;
- Analyzing non-standard transaction requests and advising senior management on approvals;
- Developing and implementing Mid-Office risk policies, procedures, and initiatives to manage ongoing business growth;
- Identifying innovative solutions aimed at enhancing processes and controls to mitigate identified risks or gaps;
- Ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements related to risk controls and reporting;
- Acting as the primary point of contact for all trading inquiries;
- Assisting traders in modeling complex trades for effective risk management;
- Supporting team reporting needs and ensuring comprehensive documentation of follow-ups;
- Leading the Mid-Office team in conducting accurate and independent analyses, valuations, and reporting of risk positions and trading outcomes daily, while ensuring adherence to all trading limits;
- Responsible for reporting trading results and positions to senior management;
- Observing and reporting operational risk incidents, including near misses and failures, while encouraging employees to self-monitor and reflect on conditions that may lead to errors;
- As part of the Global Risk Control team, collaborating closely with Mid-Office teams in other regions to support global control management processes and procedures;
- Serving as the team lead and subject matter expert for North American Gas and other commodities while collaborating with the Mid-Office team related to Power and other commodity sectors;

- Leads and develops a team of Mid-Office Analysts (approximately 5 individuals) responsible for Position and Profit and Loss (PnL) reporting;
- Monitors and provides risk assessments, analytics, and controls for business activities related to the dynamic Gas, LNG, and Dry Bulks sectors;
- The Gas, LNG, and Dry Bulks segment encompasses LNG Assets and Trading, Natural Gas market access trading, Petcoke, Sulphur, and structured deal transactions;
Context & Environment
- The company oversees gas, power, LNG, Dry, and LPG trading and marketing activities in North America;
- Operates in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with time-sensitive, business-critical activities requiring immediate analyses and communication;
- The Mid-Office team consists of more than ten professionals dedicated to power, natural gas, dry bulks, and other products;
Purposes
- Responsible for trading risk management in Gas, LNG, and Dry Bulks;
- Ensure that trading activities are fully and accurately captured, modeled, valued, and reported;
- Lead effective risk analysis that supports informed commercial decision-making and implementation;
- Communicate risk considerations effectively with senior management;
- Provide Risk Analytics support, including metrics such as Value-at-Risk (VaR) and Max Loss;
- Deliver valuable risk insights and updates to senior management and the Risk Committee;
- Account for all Mid-Office control activities, managing and transparently reporting control issues;
- Ensure compliance with all trading limits and maintain effective control processes and procedures;
- Ensure the accuracy and completeness of reports related to regulatory requirements;
- Overall management of Mid-Office staffing resources and departmental activities, including conducting performance evaluations for all direct reports;
- Coach and develop the analyst team to enhance role effectiveness and career growth aspirations;
- Establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships;
- Actively involved in optimizing and enhancing Mid-Office procedures and processes;
- Ensure compliance with the Code of Conduct and Business Integrity.
