Power Risk Management Analyst

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications and expertise:
- Degree in economics, finance, business, mathematics, or a related quantitative field.
- Thorough knowledge of risk management techniques and valuation frameworks.
- In-depth understanding of Mark-to-Market (MTM), Value at Risk (VaR), and the assessment of position exposures and other risk metrics, with specific experience in Power Risk Management within North American power Independent System Operators (ISOs), particularly ERCOT, PJM, and CAISO.
- Strong grasp of power pricing mechanisms, including experience in validating power prices against external benchmarks.
- Proficiency in Power BI, Python, or other data analysis tools such as Alteryx.
- Exceptional accuracy and efficiency in meeting deadlines.
- Robust analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Flexibility in working hours.
- Effective interpersonal communication skills.
Key Responsibilities
As a member of the Global Risk Control Organization, your responsibilities will include:
- Leading risk management analysis, monitoring, and reporting for power trading operations, including oversight of open positions, valuation controls, and MTM valuation, with daily insights on relevant metrics and limits.
- Coordinating and reviewing transactions and pricing in the trading system through deal checks, price validation, curve updates, and data reconciliation. Ensuring timely deal capture, adherence to internal trading limits, and compliance with risk policies to maintain the integrity of transactions.
- Providing analytical insights into risk reporting processes, quantifying commodity exposure, and analyzing forward price trends for TGPNA's diverse trading activities. Maintaining and enhancing risk models, testing new risk calculations, evaluating model assumptions, and communicating proposed improvements for better valuation and risk assessment.
- Collaborating closely with traders to identify and articulate the sources of risk within their portfolios.
- Assisting in the reporting of trading results and positions to senior management.
- Working in conjunction with Back Office, Finance, Credit, Legal & Compliance, and Business Unit Control to ensure optimal control practices, operational efficiency, and compliance with policies and limits.
- Coordinating with Compliance to meet regulatory requirements.
- Supporting and identifying opportunities for process improvements, from system testing to operational enhancements.
- Recognizing and communicating operational risks, defining mitigation strategies and priorities.
The role will be situated within the Global Risk Control department, reporting to the Middle Office Manager, and will focus on measuring, analyzing, and monitoring the Profit & Loss (P&L), exposure, and Value at Risk (VaR) for the Power Trading Desks. This position involves oversight of both global and U.S. energy markets.

- The Risk Control Analyst is part of a global team spanning Houston, London, and Singapore.
- Collaboration with Front Office, Operations, Back Office, Finance, Compliance, and Trading System teams across various locations and product types, including Natural Gas, NGL, LNG, Power, and Dry Bulk products.
- The Middle Office is tasked with calculating profits and losses and managing the trading department's risks, encompassing all aspects of market risk control, including risk identification, measurement, monitoring, and disclosure across diverse energy commodity assets.
- Ensuring compliance with internal trading limits;
- Providing accurate and independent analysis, valuation, and reporting of risk positions and trading outcomes;
- Meeting external regulatory compliance standards.
