Key Responsibilities

As a Mid-Office Risk Management Supervisor, your responsibilities will include:
  • Collaborating closely with the Front Office to support business growth by delivering precise insights on the risk implications of transactions; developing a robust understanding of market structures and commercial strategies; leading comprehensive risk assessments to facilitate informed decision-making;
  • Overseeing a team of risk control analysts within the Mid-Office department, managing staffing and departmental functions, mentoring and developing analysts, and conducting performance evaluations;
  • Coordinating with Back Office, Finance, Credit, Legal, and Internal Control to ensure compliance with risk management practices and policies; partnering with other leaders to drive operational excellence improvements; working with Trading Systems to enhance trading software to align with business requirements;
  • Monitoring internal limits for Front Office operations, ensuring adherence and proper documentation; analyzing non-standard transaction requests and advising senior management on approvals;
  • Formulating and executing Mid-Office risk policies, procedures, and initiatives to support ongoing business growth; identifying innovative solutions to enhance processes and controls to mitigate risks; ensuring compliance with regulatory reporting requirements;
  • Serving as the primary contact for all trading inquiries; assisting traders in modeling complex trades for effective risk management; supporting team reporting needs and ensuring thorough documentation;
  • Leading the Mid-Office team in conducting accurate and independent analyses, valuations, and reporting of risk positions and trading outcomes daily, while ensuring compliance with trading limits; responsible for reporting trading results to senior management;
  • Identifying and reporting operational risk incidents, including near misses and failures; encouraging team members to self-assess and reflect on conditions that may lead to errors;
  • As part of the Global Risk Control team, collaborating with Mid-Office teams in other regions to support global control management processes;
  • Acting as the team lead and subject matter expert in North American Power while collaborating with teams focused on Natural Gas, LNG, Dry Bulks, and other commodities.
Dimensions
  • Leads and develops a team of 3 to 5 Mid-Office Analysts responsible for Position and Profit and Loss (PnL) reporting.
  • Provides risk assessment, analytics, and controls for business activities related to the rapidly evolving power sector.
Context & Environment

The company is engaged in gas, power, LNG, Dry, and LPG trading and marketing activities across North America. The environment is fast-paced and dynamic, requiring immediate analysis and communication for business-critical activities. The Mid-Office team consists of over ten professionals dedicated to various products.

Objectives
  • Accountable for trading risk position and PnL reporting; ensuring all trading activities are accurately captured, modeled, valued, and reported;
  • Lead effective risk analysis to support informed commercial decisions and communicate risk considerations to senior management;
  • Provide Risk Analytics support, including Value-at-Risk (VaR), Max Loss, and other metrics;
  • Deliver valuable risk insights and updates to senior management;
  • Manage and report on all Mid-Office control activities with transparency; ensure compliance with trading limits and evolve control processes with the business;
  • Ensure the accuracy and completeness of reports related to regulatory requirements;
  • Overall management of Mid-Office staffing resources and departmental activities, conducting performance evaluations and coaching analysts for career development;
  • Involved in optimizing and enhancing Mid-Office operations.
