Position Overview

The SCU Mobile Peer Support Specialist plays a crucial role in delivering immediate assistance to individuals facing mental health crises. Reporting directly to the Program Manager, this full-time position is vital in ensuring effective crisis management and support within the community.

Role Responsibilities

The Peer Support Specialist will work collaboratively with emergency management teams and clinicians to:
  • Provide direct crisis intervention and management services.
  • Document interactions promptly and in accordance with agency standards.
  • Participate in clinical meetings and ongoing training.
  • Handle billing processes for Medi-Cal and Medicare.
  • Track program outcomes and ensure consumers receive aftercare follow-up.
  • Engage in community outreach with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Perform additional clinical duties as assigned by the Director of Crisis Services.

Essential Skills and Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:
  • Personal experience with mental health challenges or co-occurring disorders.
  • A minimum of one year of relevant experience in crisis management.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, along with effective time management abilities.
  • The capacity to build supportive relationships with clients.
  • Proficiency in crisis intervention techniques, including de-escalation.
  • Basic Life Support certification within 30 days of employment.
  • A Peer Support Specialist certificate from the State of California within the first six months.
  • A willingness to work outdoors and travel as needed during shifts.
  • A commitment to understanding diverse perspectives and showing humility.
  • Compliance with legal and ethical standards, including HIPAA regulations.
  • A valid California Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.

Physical Requirements

Successful candidates must be able to:
  • Lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Remain physically and emotionally present during client interactions.
  • Work effectively as part of a team and maintain accurate documentation.
