POSITION SUMMARY

The Environmental Technology Specialist will be instrumental in furthering the mission of the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ). This role requires a blend of technical expertise and strategic oversight to:

  • Develop and Manage Technology Initiatives: Formulate and supervise the computing technology framework for Geographic Information Systems (GIS), performance analytics dashboards, tracking mechanisms, and innovative management software that can enhance operational efficiency.
  • Process Evaluation: Assess current workflows for optimization and effectiveness. Provide updates on project progress and present new technology initiatives to leadership.
  • Project Leadership: Direct projects associated with GIS and software technology solutions to support organizational activities, including overseeing the execution and application within the organization. Offer insights to management regarding project advantages and resource allocation.
  • Quality Assurance: Maintain project schedules and oversee processes and deliverables; conduct testing and quality assurance evaluations to ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Geospatial Data Management: Create and adjust maps, graphs, or diagrams utilizing Geographic Information Software and associated tools. Provide critical support during emergency situations to ensure the availability of precise and timely maps as requested by leadership. Collaborate with relevant divisions to adhere to agency protocols and standards for all initiatives.
  • Training and Development: Educate division staff, regional offices, and leadership on GIS and technological solutions to enhance operational capabilities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must possess:

  • Six years of full-time experience in systems administration, business process analysis, application development, or system design.
  • OR a master's degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field with three years of relevant experience.
  • OR a bachelor's degree in a similar field with four years of applicable experience.
  • OR completion of 18 semester hours in a related field combined with five years of necessary experience.
