Position Overview

The South Dakota State University (SDSU) is in search of a dedicated individual to fill the role of Customer Service and Business Operations Assistant within the University Housing Student Life Building Services department. This position is integral in facilitating essential operations, delivering outstanding customer service, and enhancing the dynamic campus community.

Key Responsibilities:

The Customer Service and Business Operations Assistant will support the Student Life Building Services (SLBS) by overseeing the work order management system, conducting data analysis, and aiding in budget oversight through various financial and administrative tasks. Responsibilities include:
  • Prioritizing and coordinating SLBS workflow;
  • Addressing urgent issues as they arise;
  • Providing updates for significant projects;
  • Ensuring exceptional customer service at the Housing Facility Shop;
  • Communicating with diverse university departments, managing emergency notifications, and coordinating campus events;
  • Setting deadlines for preventive maintenance;
  • Delivering training on financial procedures, including purchasing, budget oversight, and internal controls;
  • Maintaining confidentiality during RFP and RFI processes.


Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Knowledge of:
  • General office practices;
  • Customer service principles;
  • Business English, including grammar and punctuation;
  • Financial and accounting practices;
  • Legal aspects of student conduct;
  • Data management techniques;
  • Procurement practices;
  • Computer applications, particularly Microsoft Office Suite, with a preference for familiarity with Ellucian Banner.


Skills & Abilities to:
  • Engage positively and professionally with stakeholders while providing exceptional customer service;
  • Operate with minimal supervision in a fast-paced, multifunctional environment;
  • Manage multiple interactions via in-person, phone, and email while maintaining composure;
  • Effectively prioritize and handle numerous tasks with competing deadlines;
  • Exhibit strong organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail;
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing;
  • Adapt to changes and foster a culture of continuous improvement;
