About Daktronics:

Daktronics Inc. specializes in the design, manufacturing, and sale of a broad spectrum of display systems across multiple markets worldwide, including Live Events, Commercial, Transportation, Schools and Theatres, and International sectors. The Environmental, Health, and Safety Specialist plays a crucial role in supporting the development and maintenance of our Environmental Management System and other EHS initiatives, ensuring a safe workplace for all employees, both domestically and internationally.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Promote a culture of safety and collaborate with various departments to enhance this culture.
  • Exhibit a strong commitment to safety across all operations.
  • Communicate relevant safety regulations and their implications.
  • Guide, mentor, and train staff on safety protocols.
  • Stay informed about EPA, OSHA, NFPA, ANSI, Workers Compensation, and pertinent international regulations.
  • Assist subcontracted safety professionals in their activities for Daktronics.
  • Occasionally travel for facility inspections, training sessions, and incident investigations.
  • Fulfill additional responsibilities as required to support team objectives.

Environmental Sustainability Initiatives:

  • Establish and uphold an Environmental Management System aimed at minimizing organizational impact.
  • Apply principles from ISO 14001 to enhance our environmental practices.
  • Identify and spearhead projects focused on reducing environmental footprints.
  • Monitor waste production trends and propose reduction strategies.
  • Conduct environmental process audits to minimize overall impact.
  • Engage with experts to manage air and waste permits with the aim of reducing environmental effects.

Employee Development:

  • Advance our EHS culture by creating an approachable and supportive environment for employees and management.
  • Lead EHS audits in collaboration with factory leadership and committee members, focusing on enhancing knowledge of safety requirements and hazard identification.
  • Support leadership and engineering teams in integrating safety into daily operations.
  • Provide guidance and training to Safety Committee members.
  • Participate in daily and monthly meetings to support safety metrics and discussions.

Business Improvement:

  • Assist in areas such as factory safety, jobsite safety, driving safety, and industrial hygiene.
  • Ensure compliance with EPA, OSHA, and other relevant standards.
  • Oversee and coordinate factory-specific EHS projects as directed by factory leadership.
  • Collaborate with factory leadership and engineering teams to address identified EHS opportunities.
  • Ensure thorough completion of accident and incident investigations, including root cause analysis.

Ongoing Training and Education:

  • Contribute to the development and delivery of EHS training for Daktronics employees, covering topics such as HAZWOPER Response, Risk Assessments, Environmental Management, and OSHA standards.
  • Conduct monthly factory safety and health training as needed.
  • Participate in seminars related to environmental, industrial hygiene, safety, and professional development.
  • Support and educate leaders on the utilization of EHS tools to enhance overall factory safety.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Environmental Studies/Sciences or Occupational Safety & Health; related fields may also be considered.
  • Preferred experience in Environmental and Safety/Compliance roles.
  • Experience collaborating with Environmental Steering Teams to establish corporate goals.
  • Familiarity with implementing ISO 14001 environmental management systems.
  • Training experience is advantageous.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written, along with good organizational abilities and self-motivation.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment effectively.
  • Physical requirements include the capacity to work in environments with various odors, lift weights up to 45 lbs, work from heights, and maintain steady hand/eye coordination.
  • Fluency in English, both written and verbal.
  • Willingness to travel by air and ground; valid driver's license and a clean driving record are necessary.
