Position Overview

The Student Life Building Services department at South Dakota State University is in search of a dedicated individual to fill the role of Customer Service and Business Operations Assistant. This position is pivotal in ensuring smooth operational processes, delivering outstanding customer service, and enhancing the overall campus experience.

Key Responsibilities:

The Customer Service and Business Operations Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting the Student Life Building Services by overseeing the work order management system, conducting data analysis, and aiding in budget oversight through various financial and administrative functions. Key duties include:
  • Prioritizing and managing workflow within the Student Life Building Services;
  • Addressing urgent matters as they arise;
  • Communicating updates for significant projects;
  • Providing exceptional customer service at the Housing Facility Shop;
  • Coordinating with multiple university departments and handling emergency notifications;
  • Establishing timelines for preventive maintenance tasks;
  • Delivering training on financial procedures, including purchasing and budget management;
  • Maintaining confidentiality during procurement processes.


Essential Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

The ideal candidate will possess:
  • Understanding of general office practices;
  • Strong customer service skills;
  • Proficiency in business English, including grammar and punctuation;
  • Familiarity with accounting and financial principles;
  • Knowledge of student conduct regulations;
  • Data management capabilities;
  • Experience with purchasing protocols;
  • Proficiency in software applications such as Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint; familiarity with Ellucian Banner is preferred.
