Position Overview

The Department of Biology and Microbiology at South Dakota State University is in search of a reliable and proactive individual to join our team as a Program Assistant I.

Key Responsibilities:
As a Program Assistant I, you will play a vital role in providing high-level administrative support to the department. Your duties will encompass assisting the department head and assistant department head with various program operations, managing accreditation documentation, overseeing data management, supervising office and laboratory personnel, and serving as the primary contact for faculty, staff, and students. Additionally, you will act as the liaison between the department and college/university administration, alumni, donors, industry partners, and academic support services.

Essential Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Proficiency in computer systems and software applications (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Experience in database development and maintenance
  • Familiarity with academic curricula, courses, and associated documentation
  • Event planning and coordination skills
  • Supervisory techniques
  • Strong customer service orientation

Skills & Abilities:
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal formats
  • Attention to detail and accuracy

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong organizational skills and a proven track record of effective time management

  • Demonstrated attention to detail
