Overview

Cubico Sustainable Investments is seeking a seasoned professional to become a vital part of the Origination and Execution team (O&E) in the United States. This team operates as a specialized function within Cubico, working alongside other essential areas such as Development, Technical, Asset Management, Legal, and Finance.

The ideal candidate will possess substantial experience in executing M&A transactions involving early and mid-stage greenfield renewable energy projects, along with expertise in securing project financing and tax equity within the US market. This role will entail a significant level of autonomy in both origination and execution responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the US Head of O&E and the US Country Head in identifying and executing investment opportunities, with an initial focus on acquiring early and mid-stage greenfield renewable energy projects.
  • Facilitate the raising of project finance and tax equity prior to construction commencement.
  • Manage the refinancing of existing debt facilities for operational projects to enhance equity cash flow.
  • Oversee the equity investment and underwriting processes, ensuring effective task allocation and management throughout the investment lifecycle. This includes reviewing financial models, information memoranda, due diligence (legal, technical, environmental, financial, and tax), and drafting transaction documentation related to specific investment opportunities.
  • Collaborate closely with various internal teams, including Development, Investment Analysis, Legal, Finance, Tax, Technical, and Asset Management.
  • Engage with external advisors throughout the Origination & Execution process, including M&A, Financial, Legal, and Technical advisors.
  • People Management: Mentor, support, and supervise team members (analysts, associates) in executing and negotiating investment transactions, preparing internal presentations, analyzing optimal transactions, and reviewing due diligence results.

Skills, Knowledge, and Expertise
  • Demonstrated experience in originating and executing renewable energy equity and debt transactions in the US.
  • Ability to structure transactions for early and mid-stage development assets through upfront or earnout structures.
  • Knowledgeable in raising and structuring US tax equity investments.
  • In-depth understanding of various renewable energy technologies (wind, solar PV, battery storage) and the complete investment cycle.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the North American Electricity Market and the US development process.
  • Exceptional communication skills, capable of addressing contractual, commercial, and technical issues.
  • Adaptability to reassess priorities in challenging situations and tight deadlines.
  • Relevant academic and professional qualifications.
