Position Overview

The Crisis Management Advisor operates under the general guidance of the Emergency Management Coordinator, playing a pivotal role in executing the city's comprehensive all-hazard emergency management strategy. This position encompasses a variety of responsibilities aimed at enhancing safety and preparedness within the community.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Contribute to the formulation, revision, and execution of emergency management plans, ensuring alignment with local, state, and federal standards.
  • Manage and oversee the processing of information related to Homeland Security and other emergency management grants, ensuring compliance with funding requirements.
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of emergency management equipment and track all purchases funded through grants or general allocations.
  • Facilitate training and educational initiatives for city personnel to bolster disaster preparedness and response capabilities.
  • Conduct After-Action Reviews (AARs) to assess training effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.
  • Monitor significant incidents and events, utilizing various communication tools to maintain situational awareness.
  • Assist in the operation of the city's emergency warning systems and coordinate community outreach efforts to engage stakeholders.
  • Provide support during emergency incidents, ensuring effective coordination and resource management.
  • Serve as the Emergency Management Duty Officer, available for on-call duties to activate emergency operations as necessary.
  • Participate in collaborative disaster planning with external partners and represent the city in various emergency management forums.
Qualifications:

Education: A Bachelor's Degree in Emergency Management, Public Safety, Public Administration, Homeland Security, or a related field is preferred.

Experience: A minimum of one year of experience in emergency management is required; two years is preferred.

Licenses and Certifications: Familiarity with Texas Government Code, Chapter 418, and completion of FEMA's Independent Study Programs is necessary.

Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of emergency management practices, municipal operations, and applicable laws is essential. Candidates should demonstrate strong problem-solving skills, effective communication abilities, and a commitment to public service.

Work hours are typically Monday through Thursday from 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM, and Friday from 7:30 AM to 11:30 AM, with flexibility required for emergency situations.
