Key Responsibilities: The Optical Metasurface Specialist will be instrumental in the continuous enhancement of the company's dynamic metasurface technology. Primary duties include:

  • Leading the design and refinement of metasurface components for AI accelerator chips, applying metamaterial principles to achieve targeted optical functionalities.
  • Utilizing sophisticated simulation tools (Ansys HFSS, Lumerical, Comsol) to model and analyze the electromagnetic characteristics of metasurface configurations.
  • Creating metasurface elements to manipulate light at the nanoscale, focusing on phase modulation, polarization control, and beam steering, while ensuring compatibility with CMOS fabrication.
  • Collaborating with teams specializing in optics, silicon photonics, and CMOS processing to integrate metasurface components into chip designs, ensuring fabrication compatibility.
  • Conducting thorough electromagnetic simulations to enhance metasurface designs for key performance indicators such as efficiency, bandwidth, and angular response.
  • Prototyping and facilitating the CMOS-compatible production of metasurface structures using cutting-edge CMOS techniques, in collaboration with both internal and external fabrication partners.

Qualifications:

  • PhD in Optical Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline, with a concentration on metamaterials and computational electromagnetics.
  • A minimum of 3 years of demonstrable experience in the design and simulation of metasurface elements for optical applications, with a solid grasp of metamaterial principles and effective medium theory.
  • Expertise in simulation software such as Ansys HFSS, Lumerical, Comsol, or similar for electromagnetic modeling and design optimization.
  • A robust understanding of physics, particularly electromagnetism and optics, with the capability to apply theoretical concepts to practical design challenges.
  • Familiarity with CMOS fabrication methodologies and constraints, with experience in designing metasurfaces that align with CMOS processes.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team setting.
