We are in search of a Polarization Optical Systems Specialist to propel our innovation and product evolution.

Your primary focus will be on tackling the most intricate optical challenges, leveraging your expertise, experience, and industry connections to devise solutions that will enhance our AR/VR trajectory.

As a Polarization Optical Systems Specialist, you will collaborate with diverse engineering teams, including optics, display, metrology, and operations, to develop and refine a wide array of polarization optical components within VR optical systems throughout the New Product Introduction (NPI) process.

Your main goal is to ensure that product specifications are met through thorough collaboration and specialized knowledge.

Key Responsibilities:

Optical Systems Specialist Duties:


Engage with optics, display, mechanical, metrology, and other interdisciplinary engineering teams to assess, develop, and implement various polarization optical components and systems.

Define critical performance indicator requirements at both the component and system levels.

Create simulation models, design, and execute Design of Experiments (DOEs) to validate design assumptions and simulation outcomes.


Conduct tolerance analysis and manage performance budgets for polarization-sensitive optical components and subsystems, balancing manufacturability and cost considerations against system-level KPIs.

Develop simulation software and tools, providing documentation and training to assist other team members.

Carry out DOEs and failure analyses to resolve polarization-related KPI failures arising from manufacturing processes.

Contribute to the development of tests and metrology as a subject matter expert in polarization.

Deliver executive-level summaries and recommendations at both organizational and architectural levels to guide subsystem-level design decisions.

15% domestic and/or international travel may be required.

Minimum Qualifications:

Essential Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.


Proficient in navigating ambiguity and collaborating with extensive cross-functional teams and multilayer supply chains to successfully transition polarization optical components into production for VR applications.

Experience with Zemax, LightTools, Matlab, Mathematica, or Polaris M.

Experience in tolerancing both sequential and non-sequential optical systems.

Experience in tolerancing polarization-sensitive optical components/systems.

Ability to employ both logical and creative thinking to resolve issues.

Preferred Qualifications:

Desirable Qualifications:
Advanced degree in Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical discipline.

4+ years of industry and academic/research experience in Polarization simulation, Polarization ray tracing, Polarization measurement, and Visual Optics.


Experience in one or more of the following areas: Stray light modeling and analysis, Illumination optics design and manufacturing, Display/backlight design and development.

Experience in statistical process control within a manufacturing environment using JMP, Matlab, or similar programs.

Compensation:
$129,000/year to $200,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
