Position Overview
As the Lead Optical Metasurface Designer, you will spearhead the multi-physics design and simulation efforts for Lumotive's next-generation dynamic metasurface technology.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong balance of individual contribution and team leadership, guiding the direction of nanophotonic design.


Your Key Responsibilities:


1. Conduct multi-physics design of metasurface unit cells, integrating electromagnetic simulations, liquid crystal dynamics, and electrostatics while adhering to constraints related to CMOS manufacturing, electrical performance, and liquid crystal materials.
2. Optimize computational modulation patterns and perform large-scale array simulations to enhance beamforming performance.
3. Establish and maintain a robust software infrastructure and codebase for the rigorous design and optimization of metasurfaces, integrating multiple simulation tools.
4. Collaborate closely with the ASIC design team on driver architecture, computational requirements, and optimization of modulation pattern generation.
5. Work in conjunction with manufacturing and optical characterization teams.

6. Analyze opto-electronic system trade-offs, including power, size, cost, and optical performance, and understand how these factors are influenced by metasurface properties.

Qualifications:
- PhD in nanophotonics, optics, electrical engineering, physics, or related disciplines.
- 5+ years of experience in large-scale photonic simulations utilizing FDTD and similar methodologies.
- 5+ years of proficiency in Python, with experience in collaborative tools like Git and writing unit/integration tests.
- Preferred experience in multi-physics simulations of opto-electronic devices.
- Proven project and team management skills in complex and ambiguous technical projects.
- Hands-on experience with the optical characterization of optoelectronic and photonic devices is preferred.

Additional Information:
Compensation ranges from $170,000 to $190,000 (USD), adjusted according to location, along with performance-based quarterly bonuses and equity opportunities based on experience.
