Position Overview

  • The Senior Manager of Operations for the Maritime Power Systems Division's Philadelphia facility will act as the Operations Site Manager, accountable for both strategic and daily operational execution. This includes overseeing 95 touch labor and 40 support staff engaged in Shop Operations, Manufacturing/Industrial Engineering, Production Planning, Quality Assurance, Continuous Improvement, Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S), and Facilities management for all programs/contracts within the division, specifically in the assembly of intricate power conversion electronic cabinets utilizing processes such as welding, cable manufacturing/dressing, and electronics assembly/testing. This role will report directly to the leader of the Maritime Power Systems Operations Division while maintaining a dotted-line relationship with the Site General Manager.
Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a multi-disciplinary team in manufacturing, quality assurance, continuous improvement, and EH&S initiatives.
  • Formulate and execute strategies to achieve cost efficiency, quality standards, timely delivery, customer satisfaction, EHS compliance, and continuous improvement objectives.
  • Build a high-performing operations team through effective staffing, training, and talent management initiatives, exemplifying integrity, inclusion, and diversity.

Maintain accountability for:
  • Succession planning and organizational talent development.
  • Facilitating Operations, Manufacturing, and Quality involvement in design development to pinpoint and resolve manufacturability, testability, and inspectability challenges.
  • Collaboration with Program Management, Supply Chain, and other functional teams across the Philadelphia facility.
  • Leading the organization in crafting and executing operational philosophies and business strategies.
  • Establishing, implementing, and sustaining success metrics while integrating best practices and effectively communicating improvements.
  • Managing behavior, performance, and key deliverables within a matrix organization.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Operations Management, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 12 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • 10 years of experience in an Operations leadership role with comprehensive knowledge of manufacturing methods, lean principles, production planning, and quality management systems.
  • Fundamental understanding of EH&S to promote zero injury plans with a proactive approach.
  • Extensive experience in Shop Floor Management of electronics, fabrication, or similar processes.
  • Working knowledge of Earned Value Management and comprehensive estimate-at-complete (EAC) establishment and analysis.
  • Experience in establishing and analyzing manufacturing labor standards (hours-per-unit).
Preferred Qualifications/Skills:
  • Advanced degree in management.
  • Experience in Operational Excellence fields, including:
    • Understanding lean principles related to pull systems and mix/max controls.
    • One Piece Flow or Pull System manufacturing.
    • Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
    • 5S+1 Visual Factory methodologies.
    • Sales Inventory and Operations Planning (SIOP).
    • Gemba implementation.
    • Adherence to MRP/MES Systems.
    • Knowledge of ISO9001:2015; AS9100D and Quality Management System compliance.
    • Familiarity with Advanced Product Quality Planning and other proactive quality tools.
    • Experience in deploying proactive safety initiatives to achieve zero injuries.
    • Aerospace & Defense electronics experience, with mixed model factory experience being a plus.
    • Experience in a matrixed organization.
    • Exceptional problem-solving abilities.
    • Strong experience in implementing a metrics-driven approach across all Operations functions.
    • Proven capability to identify performance issues and implement necessary changes effectively and promptly.
    • Ability to thrive in a dynamic environment.
    • Effective communication skills at all organizational levels.
    • Exceptional communication and presentation abilities.
    • Demonstrated success in building stable, effective teams and fostering followership.
