Position Overview
As a key member of the Juvenile Department, the Youth Substance Abuse Intervention Specialist provides essential counseling and specialized outpatient services tailored for adolescents under the department's care.

Key Responsibilities
- Conducts individual, group, and family counseling sessions aimed at supporting youths in overcoming substance abuse challenges.
- Completes all necessary treatment documentation for assigned youths, ensuring accurate and thorough records of progress.
- Performs random urinalysis screenings to monitor compliance and progress.
- Acts as a supportive team member, taking on various responsibilities such as administering medications, transporting youths to appointments, processing intake assessments, and managing disciplinary actions.

Physical Requirements
- Must be capable of executing 'handling with care' techniques, including physical interventions when necessary, as per the Texas Juvenile Justice Department standards.

Professional Development
- Participates in ongoing training and meetings to remain informed about the latest trends and innovations in the substance abuse field.
- Provides educational sessions on substance abuse, including critical topics such as HIV/AIDS and tobacco use.
- Conducts periodic home visits to ensure comprehensive support for youths.

Qualifications
- A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Behavioral Science, Corrections, Education, or a related field is required.
- At least one year of relevant experience working with at-risk youth populations.

  • Certification as a Juvenile Probation Officer is required within six months of hire; a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC) is preferred.
  • Proficient in standard software applications and possess strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Must hold a valid Texas Driver's License with a clean driving record and pass a comprehensive background check.
  • Subject to mandatory drug testing prior to employment and random testing throughout employment.
  • Position may involve working with juveniles who have exhibited aggressive behaviors; a high tolerance for emotionally demanding environments is essential.
  • Flexibility to be reassigned to different departments, shifts, or locations as needed.
  • Willingness to work in a 24-hour facility, which may include mandatory overtime or additional shifts.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age and successfully complete all required training programs.
  • Ability to visit various off-site locations and perform physical tasks as necessary.
