Overview
As a vital member of the Dallas County team, the Youth Substance Abuse Intervention Specialist provides essential counseling and specialized outpatient services aimed at supporting adolescents under the care of the Juvenile Department.

Key Responsibilities
- Conduct individual, group, and family counseling sessions tailored for youths.
- Complete all necessary treatment documentation for assigned individuals.
- Maintain comprehensive and precise records of all interactions to track progress.
- Administer random urinalysis screenings for assigned youths.
- Participate in ongoing training and meetings to remain informed about the latest trends and innovations in the substance abuse field.
- Deliver educational programs on substance abuse, including topics on HIV/AIDS and tobacco use.
- Conduct periodic home visits as required.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Behavioral Science, Corrections, Education, or a related field is required.
- A minimum of one year of relevant experience working with at-risk youth is necessary.

Special Skills and Requirements:
- Certification as a Juvenile Probation Officer is required within six months of hire; a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC) is preferred.
- Proficiency in standard software applications is essential.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills are necessary, along with the ability to build effective working relationships.
- A valid Texas Driver's License with a clean driving record is mandatory.
- Candidates must pass a thorough background investigation and mandatory drug testing prior to employment, and will be subject to random testing during employment.
- The role involves working with juveniles who may exhibit aggressive behavior; therefore, a high tolerance for emotionally demanding situations is essential.
- Employees may be reassigned to different departments, shifts, or locations based on departmental needs.
- The position may require working in a 24-hour facility, which could involve mandatory overtime or double shifts.
- Employees may be considered 'essential personnel' and could be called back to work as needed.
- Applicants must be at least 21 years of age and must successfully complete all required training and standards related to the position.

Working Environment:
The role is primarily office-based but may require the ability to restrain or pursue youths and navigate various off-site locations.
