Position Overview
As a vital member of the Dallas County team, the Youth Substance Abuse Intervention Specialist provides essential counseling and specialized outpatient services tailored for adolescents under the supervision of the Juvenile Department.

Key Responsibilities
- Conduct individual, group, and family counseling sessions for youths.
- Complete all necessary treatment documentation for assigned cases.
- Maintain thorough and accurate records of all interactions with youths to track their progress.
- Administer random urinalysis screenings for assigned individuals.
- Participate in ongoing training and meetings to remain informed about the latest trends and innovations in the substance abuse field.
- Deliver educational programs on substance abuse, including topics related to HIV/AIDS and tobacco use.
- Conduct periodic home visits as needed.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Behavioral Science, Corrections, Education, or a related field is required.
- A minimum of one year of relevant experience working with at-risk youth is necessary.

Special Requirements/Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Certification as a Juvenile Probation Officer is required within six months of hire; a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC) certification is preferred.
- Proficiency in standard software applications is essential.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills are necessary, along with the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships.
- A valid Texas Driver's License with a clean driving record is required.
- Candidates must successfully pass a comprehensive background investigation and mandatory drug testing prior to employment, with ongoing random testing during employment.
- The role may involve working with juveniles who have exhibited dangerous or aggressive behaviors, necessitating a high tolerance for emotionally demanding situations.
- Employees may be reassigned to different departments, shifts, or locations based on departmental needs.
- The position may require working in a 24-hour facility, including mandatory overtime or additional shifts.
- Employees may be designated as 'essential personnel,' subject to being called back to work as needed.
- Candidates must be at least 21 years of age and must meet all physical and written standards of the Juvenile Academy to maintain employment.

Physical/Environmental Requirements:
- The role typically involves a standard office environment but may require physical activities such as restraining or pursuing youths and climbing stairs. The ability to travel to various off-site locations is also necessary.
