Position Overview

The City of Torrance is seeking a qualified candidate for the role of Deputy City Clerk III within the Office of the City Clerk. This pivotal position is responsible for overseeing the daily functions of the City Clerk's Office, ensuring efficient operations and compliance with municipal regulations.

Departmental Role
The Office of the City Clerk serves as a critical resource for the City Council, various departments, and the public, providing essential information regarding city operations and legislative history. The City Clerk acts as a bridge between the public and the City Council, managing vital municipal services such as the maintenance of official city records, election processes, and the preparation of City Council agendas and minutes.

Key Responsibilities
The Deputy City Clerk III will:
  • Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of the City Clerk's Office.
  • Manage staff responsible for maintaining official records and conducting elections.
  • Provide comprehensive administrative support to the City Clerk, City Council, and various commissions.
  • Ensure effective communication and collaboration with other city departments and external agencies.
  • Exercise signatory authority for official documents in the absence of the City Clerk.

Qualifications
Applicants should possess a combination of education and experience that equips them with the necessary knowledge and skills for this role. A typical pathway includes:
  • A minimum of four years of progressively responsible experience in professional administrative support within a public agency, including supervisory experience.
  • A Bachelor's degree in business administration, public administration, or a related field, with a Certified Municipal Clerk (CMC) designation being highly desirable.
