Job Title: RN Unit Educator

Job Summary:

The RN Unit Educator plays a critical role in preparing, providing, and evaluating education for team members in one or more clinical units. This position requires a strong understanding of adult learning principles and the ability to assess educational needs, plan and deliver educational offerings, and evaluate their effectiveness.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Education Development: Prepare, provide, and evaluate education for team members in one or more clinical units using available evidence and consistent with principles of adult learning.
  • Needs Assessment: Assess educational needs using feedback from front-line staff, quality and safety data, anticipated regulatory and technological updates, and recommendations from leaders.
  • Curriculum Design: Plan and deliver educational offerings based upon best available evidence, that is consistent with principles of adult learning, and tailoring the methodologies to the content as well as the size of the class and learning needs of the target audience.
  • Evaluation and Revision: Evaluate effectiveness of educational offerings and revise them based upon evaluation feedback or 'just in time' needs.
  • Onboarding and Orientation: Facilitate initial on-boarding and orientation of new team members.
  • Just-in-Time Education: Provide 'just in time' education to one or more team members.
  • Individual Support: Provide individual support to team members as needed, to include participation in and support during bedside care.
  • Equipment and Supply Training: Serve as a 'superuser' on equipment and supplies as needed.
  • Competency Assessments: Perform annual and on-going competency assessments.
  • Committee Participation: Participate in committee meetings, including education, evidence-based practice, policy and procedure, unity decision council, unit staff meetings, and nurse shared governance.
  • Patient Care: Provide direct patient care during times of need that is consistent with USA Health staff nurse job description.
  • Staff Development: Assist staff development in tracking staff's life support training when needed.
  • Education Files: Keep team members' education files up to date.
  • Cross-Training: Coordinate team member cross-training to other clinical unit(s) or teams as needed.
  • Regulatory Readiness: Assist with regulatory readiness activities as needed, such as completing tracers and supporting staff members to achieve survey readiness.
  • Policies and Procedures: Assist with and/or authors policies and procedures when required.
  • Evidence-Based Practice: Understand and support evidence-based clinical decision making.
  • Attendance and Availability: Regular and prompt attendance and the ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required.
Qualifications:
  • Education: Graduation from an accredited school of nursing and five years of experience OR bachelor's degree in nursing from an accredited school of nursing and two years of experience.
  • Licensure: Current Alabama RN license or current Multi-State RN License in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) for Alabama.

Masters degree preferred.
