Responsibilities:


The role involves overseeing the medical care of newborns in a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), particularly those experiencing urgent, acute, or chronic health issues, under the guidance of a neonatologist or designated physician. Key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting resuscitation procedures for newborns in the delivery room, which encompasses endotracheal intubation, positive pressure ventilation, and the calculation and administration of resuscitation medications.
  • Inserting peripheral and central vascular lines, as well as performing procedures for the evacuation of body spaces, including pneumothoraces and pericardial fluid.
  • Managing medical conditions in neonates, including common pre and post-operative issues, and overseeing mechanical ventilation.
  • Performing diagnostic evaluations and preparing neonates for discharge.
  • Providing care for healthy newborns, administering injections, and dispensing medications, including controlled substances.
  • Engaging in clinical research and serving as a mentor to nurse practitioner students and residents in neonatal care.
  • Collecting data for the neonatal population database and offering educational support to parents.
  • Maintaining regular attendance and adhering to the defined work schedule, including overtime as necessary.

Qualifications:
Applicants must possess a Bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited institution recognized by USA Health and the University of South Alabama, have completed an approved nurse practitioner training program, and hold certification as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner. A current Alabama RN license or a valid Multi-State RN License in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) for Alabama is also required.
