Job Summary

USA Health is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Registered Nurse to join our team. As a Registered Nurse, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and contributing to the organization's mission to transform medicine along the Gulf Coast.

Key Responsibilities
  • Practice family-centered nursing according to policies and the Nurse Practice Act.
  • Supervise, plan, evaluate, and coordinate patient care provided by other licensed and non-licensed staff.
  • Demonstrate CPR according to American Heart Association standards.
  • Abide by and enforce all compliance requirements and policies, performing these responsibilities in an ethical manner consistent with the organization's values.
  • Adhere to hospital policies, including confidentiality.
  • Serve as a preceptor for new employees and nursing students.
  • Utilize the nursing process to assess patients, plan individual care, identify expected outcomes, implement and evaluate nursing interventions for patients and families.
  • Perform therapeutic procedures and assist with diagnostic procedures required for the care of the patient.
  • Administer medications, including controlled substances, by all routes.
  • Administer blood and blood products.
  • Respond appropriately to emergency patient situations.
  • Perform basic life support and management of arrest situations.
  • Start IVs.
  • Perform activities of daily living.
  • When performing skilled procedures, the RN can state the purpose, rationale, precautions, and observations related to that procedure.
  • Utilize proper body mechanics when moving, positioning, and transferring patients without assistance or with assistance when needed for patient safety.
  • Move equipment that is necessary to perform essential functions.
  • Provide patient education by planning, coordinating, and delegating, as appropriate, the educational needs of each patient.
  • Utilize a personal computer or terminal to access the Clinical Information System.
  • Communicate and use appropriate customer relation skills with physicians, patients, families, and healthcare team in person and via telephone.
  • Respond to overhead pages.
  • Complete ADP within unit time frame.
  • Complete flow chart, pain assessment tool, discharge forms, and MAR.
  • Supervise, evaluate, and finalize the patient care record.
  • Transcribe physician orders.
  • Complete all mandatory unit, educational, and hospital requirements.
  • Utilize cost-effective practices in performing all aspects of the job.
  • Adhere to current Infection Control and Safety Standards.
  • Demonstrate the ability to provide competent patient care to the following patient populations: Neonate, Infant-Toddler/Preschool, School Age/Adolescent, Reproductive Age, Post/Peri Menopausal.
  • Utilize and care for all types of CVLs, including PICC/Midlines.
  • Serve as a PICC Line Team Member.
  • Provide on-call support to the unit when the Pediatric Critical Care Transport Team has been dispatched.
  • Maintain current knowledge base of all unit policies and procedures, equipment location, and supplies.
  • Ensure that charge stickers and charges for all procedures are documented in the appropriate location.
  • Complete PALS and ACLS within one year of employment.
  • Maintain PALS and ACLS certification status with a 6-month window to complete the course.
  • Administer and monitor conscious sedation.
  • Identify, organize, and direct activities to utilize resources, personnel, and materials to meet the needs of the patient and nursing staff.
  • Communicate with the Nurse Manager and Nurse Administrator on an ongoing basis regarding changes in the unit status, patient-related issues, Quality Management issues, and other events as they evolve.
  • Act as the first line in problem resolution with other departments and any complaints.
  • Assist with shift duty assignments.
  • Verify that emergency equipment is functional.
  • Ensure that narcotic counts and stock drug counts are completed by the end of the shift.
  • Complete acuity sheet and charge nurse checkout sheet.
  • Maintain knowledge base of all PICU Critical Care Transport policies and procedures.
  • Maintain competency in all advanced nursing, transport procedures, and skills.
  • Utilize the appropriate communication skills with referring hospital personnel and transport team members throughout the transport process.
  • Participate on committees as assigned.
  • Participate in Performance Improvement activities as assigned.
  • Access and accurately maintain electronic and paper medical records.
  • Regular and prompt attendance.
  • Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required.
Qualifications
  • Current Alabama RN license or current Multi-State RN License in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) for Alabama.
