Position Overview:

The Special Education Resource Teacher plays a crucial role in ensuring compliance with educational standards and supporting exceptional students within the Mobile County Public School System.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversees adherence to state and federal regulations regarding special education.
  • Participates in eligibility and Individual Education Program (IEP) meetings as required.
  • Maintains oversight of special education documentation and confidentiality protocols.
  • Ensures the timely completion of Data Verification forms across assigned institutions.
  • Tracks and reports data for special education monitoring systems.
  • Collaborates with school leaders to ensure effective IEP implementation and adherence to timelines.
  • Implements confidentiality measures within local educational settings.
  • Plans and coordinates Extended School Year (ESY) Services, including staffing, curriculum design, resource procurement, budgeting, and training.
  • Reviews and monitors students' ESY Individual Education Plans and service locations.
  • Supports teachers in facilitating the transition of exceptional students into mainstream classrooms.
  • Assists the Executive Director of Special Services in developing instructional programs tailored for exceptional learners.
  • Contributes to the creation of educational objectives aligned with the district's goals and the specific needs of students in special classes.
  • Helps prepare instructional materials suited to the requirements of exceptional students.
  • Develops and shares resource units, teaching guides, and other materials to enhance program delivery.
  • Coordinates transportation and transfers for exceptional students as necessary.
  • Provides leadership and guidance to local schools in implementing special education programs.
  • Works collaboratively with school administrators to evaluate classroom practices and facilitate improvement discussions.
  • Engages with principals and educators to foster cooperative relationships with parents.
  • Conducts formal observations upon request to assess program effectiveness.
  • Participates in professional development workshops and in-services related to special education.

Qualifications:

Applicants must possess a Master's degree in Administration or Special Education from an accredited institution.

A valid Alabama Teaching Certificate in Special Education is required.

Applicants should have a minimum of five years of successful teaching experience in the field of Special Education.
