Responsibilities:

VARIOUS SHIFTS AVAILABLE
Engages in family-centered nursing in accordance with established policies and the Nurse Practice Act; assumes the role of Charge Nurse when designated; oversees, plans, evaluates, and coordinates patient care delivered by both licensed and non-licensed personnel; employs the nursing process to assess patients, devise tailored care plans, identify anticipated outcomes, and implement and evaluate nursing interventions for patients and their families; delivers direct patient care aligned with unit-specific competencies; executes therapeutic procedures and assists with diagnostic tasks essential for patient care; administers medications, including controlled substances, through all routes; manages blood and blood product transfusions; responds appropriately to emergency situations involving patients; initiates IVs; performs activities of daily living; provides basic life support and manages cardiac/respiratory emergencies; operates with minimal supervision to safely deliver patient care; when executing skilled procedures, articulates the purpose, rationale, precautions, and observations pertinent to that procedure; utilizes proper body mechanics when moving, positioning, and transferring patients independently or with assistance as necessary for patient safety and when handling equipment essential for performing critical functions; offers patient and family education by planning, coordinating, and delegating educational needs appropriately; utilizes a personal computer or terminal to access the Hospital Information System; communicates effectively and employs appropriate customer service skills with physicians, patients, families, and the healthcare team both in person and via telephone; responds promptly to unit and overhead pages; maintains accurate and comprehensive medical records by utilizing correct documentation tools and procedures: completing admission assessments within unit timeframes, flow charts with signatures, discharge and pain assessments, MAK/MAR and restraint forms, and all applicable forms; transcribes physician orders; evaluates and finalizes the patient care record; accepts and fulfills all duties positively and without conflict; collaborates, assists others, and enhances unit performance; completes all mandatory unit, educational, and hospital requirements; employs cost-effective practices in all job aspects; adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards; maintains unit organization and cleanliness; demonstrates the ability to provide competent patient care across Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult, and Geriatric populations; follows Heart Failure Protocol; participates in hourly rounds; when serving as

Charge Nurse:

identifies, organizes, and directs activities to utilize resources, personnel, and materials to meet the needs of patients and nursing staff; maintains ongoing communication with the Nurse Manager and Nurse Administrator regarding unit status, patient-related issues, staffing concerns, quality management matters, and other evolving events; acts as the first line of problem resolution with other departments and addresses patient complaints; assists with shift duty assignments or serves as a staff nurse as needed; verifies the functionality of emergency equipment; demonstrates CPR in accordance with American Heart Association standards; serves as a mentor for new employees and nursing students; adheres to all patient safety goals; complies with all Standards of Performance; abides by and enforces all compliance requirements and policies, performing these responsibilities ethically in alignment with the organization's values; adheres to hospital policies, including confidentiality; participates in assigned committees; engages in Performance Improvement activities as assigned; maintains regular and prompt attendance; possesses the ability to work the defined schedule and required overtime; performs related duties as necessary.


Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited nursing program and possession of a current Alabama RN license or a current Multi-State RN License in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) for Alabama.
