Responsibilities:


The Pediatric Emergency Paramedic provides care to young patients in accordance with USA Health Children's & Women's Hospital protocols; collaborates with the multidisciplinary Emergency Department team to implement treatment plans; maintains effective communication with the attending physician, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals; assists licensed RNs in delivering care by monitoring vital signs, reporting abnormalities, aiding in triage with prompt registration and routine patient care, supporting ID now and point-of-care testing, performing EKGs in the Emergency Department, executing venipuncture and IV insertions, participating as a member of the USA Health Children's & Women's code and Rapid Response Team, and collecting routine lab specimens (such as rapid strep and urine analysis); assists with the admissions process; transports patients to necessary units as required; acts as a driver for the Pediatric Neonatal Transport Team; promotes patient safety and a family-centered approach to care; helps maintain an organized and well-stocked triage and treatment area; assists with monitoring the behavior of mental health patients as necessary; supports physician staff with medical procedures, including casting, splinting, and suturing; ensures regular and punctual attendance; adheres to the defined work schedule and is available for overtime as needed; performs related duties as assigned.


Qualifications:


Applicants must possess a high school diploma or equivalent, have completed an EMT-Paramedic program, hold a valid paramedic license in the state of Alabama, and have at least one year of paramedic experience.

Current ACLS/BLS certification is mandatory.


A valid driver's license and a driving record that meets the insurance coverage requirements of the University of South Alabama may be necessary for certain positions.
