Responsibilities:

Delivers patient-centered healthcare through a comprehensive and collaborative approach, ensuring top-tier care for all patients; adheres to family-centered nursing practices in accordance with established policies and the Nurse Practice Act; assumes the role of Charge Nurse when designated; oversees, plans, assesses, and coordinates patient care provided by both licensed and unlicensed personnel; demonstrates CPR in alignment with American Heart Association standards; complies with and enforces all regulatory requirements and organizational policies, performing these duties ethically and in line with the organization's core values; maintains confidentiality in accordance with hospital policies; acts as a mentor for new staff and nursing students; adheres to all Patient Safety Goals and Standards of Performance; employs the nursing process to: evaluate the patient, devise personalized care plans, establish expected outcomes, and implement and assess nursing interventions for patients and their families; provides direct patient care in accordance with unit-specific competencies; executes therapeutic procedures and assists with necessary diagnostic procedures; administers medications, including controlled substances, via all routes; administers blood and blood products; responds appropriately to emergency situations; initiates IVs; assists with daily living activities; performs basic life support and manages critical situations; operates with minimal supervision to ensure safe patient care; articulates the purpose, rationale, precautions, and observations related to skilled procedures; utilizes proper body mechanics when moving, positioning, and transferring patients, with or without assistance as required for safety; employs proper techniques when handling equipment essential for performing job functions; provides education to patients and families by planning, coordinating, and delegating educational needs; ensures comprehensive documentation of educational efforts; utilizes a personal computer or terminal to access the Hospital Information System; communicates effectively and employs appropriate customer service skills with physicians, families, and healthcare teams both in person and via telephone; responds to unit pages; maintains accurate and complete medical records by ensuring timely assessments, completing daily shift evaluations with signatures, adhering to discharge protocols, conducting pain assessments, following medical history reconciliation processes, ensuring MAR accuracy, and completing all relevant documentation; supervises, evaluates, and finalizes patient records, transcribes physician orders, and utilizes correct documentation tools and procedures; accepts and fulfills all duties positively and without conflict; collaborates, assists others, and enhances unit performance; completes all mandatory unit, educational, and hospital requirements; employs cost-effective practices in all job aspects; adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards; maintains unit organization and cleanliness; demonstrates the ability to provide competent care to diverse patient populations: Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult, and Geriatric; cares for patients on Intraaortic Balloon Pumps (IABP) and Ventricular Assist Devices (VAD); removes arterial sheaths; interprets EKGs; sets up, maintains, monitors, and utilizes hemodynamic monitoring devices, including arterial lines and flow-directed catheters; manages patients receiving temporary or permanent cardiac pacing; initiates and adjusts medications (including emergency medications, vasoactive agents, antiarrhythmics, insulin infusions, and sedation infusions); oversees patients on mechanical ventilation; utilizes SVO2, SJO2, Camion monitors, and temperature management devices; adheres to unit documentation standards (alarm limits, turning, suctioning, tubing, infusions, and dressing changes); maintains accurate intake and output cumulative totals; assists with shift duty assignments or serves as staff nurse as needed; identifies, organizes, and directs activities to optimize resources, personnel, and materials to meet patient and nursing staff needs; communicates regularly with the Nurse Manager and Nurse Administrator regarding unit status, patient-related issues, staffing concerns, quality management matters, and evolving events; acts as the first point of contact for problem resolution with other departments and addresses patient complaints; assists with shift duty assignments or serves as staff nurse as needed; verifies the functionality of emergency equipment; participates in assigned committees; engages in Performance Improvement activities through quality measurement or participation in PDSA as assigned; maintains regular and prompt attendance; demonstrates the ability to work the defined schedule and fulfill overtime requirements; performs related duties as necessary.


Qualifications:


Graduation from an accredited nursing program meeting the minimum standards set by the state of Alabama, two years of professional nursing experience, and licensure as a registered nurse in the state of Alabama.
