Los Angeles, California, United States Project 180 Full time
Job Overview

Position Title: Program Coordinator, HEAL
Department: Project 180
Compensation: $33.65/hour

About the Organization

SSG-Project 180 is dedicated to transforming lives through innovative, comprehensive services that empower individuals to remain in their communities rather than institutional settings. As a leader in forensic treatment, Project 180 provides specialized programs that cater to thousands of individuals involved with the justice system. Our initiatives encompass various criminal justice interventions, including pre-arrest strategies, court-based diversions, jail outreach, and intensive post-release support.

Program Details

The HEAL and 'Capstone' initiatives are mental health diversion pilots overseen by the Office of the LA County Public Defender. These programs aim to offer dedicated psychologists for conducting 730 Mental Health Evaluations for eligible defendants, thereby creating new avenues for mental health diversion. Project 180 collaborates with the Public Defender to deliver clinical staffing and administrative assistance for both programs.

Role Responsibilities

The Program Coordinator will be tasked with managing client referrals, scheduling evaluation appointments, and ensuring clients navigate the evaluation process effectively. This role requires close collaboration with indigent defense agencies to process referrals, in-house psychologists to coordinate schedules, and clients to facilitate appointment arrangements. As a member of the founding program team, the Coordinator will play a crucial role in developing systems and processes essential for the program's success.

Key Duties
  • Client Referral Management:
    • Receive and track referrals from defense agencies, ensuring documentation is collected and followed up appropriately.
    • Maintain a detailed tracker of all referred clients and their program statuses.
    • Identify and resolve any issues that may hinder client progress.
    • Schedule appointments with psychologists for client evaluations.
    • Distribute 730 Evaluation reports to relevant parties as per program guidelines.
  • Psychologist Calendar Management:
    • Organize weekly schedules for psychologists based on referrals and program needs.
    • Coordinate client appointments while adhering to program parameters.
    • Monitor appointment completion and reschedule any missed sessions.
    • Arrange both physical and virtual meeting spaces as necessary.
    • Establish effective communication systems with psychologists for scheduling and issue resolution.
  • System Development and Improvement:
    • Create and maintain organizational systems for workflow, communication, and documentation.
    • Collaborate with stakeholders to address daily operational challenges.
    • Continuously evaluate and enhance systems for optimal efficiency.
    • Keep the Program Supervisor informed of process statuses and any emerging issues.
  • General Staff Expectations:
    • Regular attendance is required, with potential for holiday or weekend work.
    • Adhere to the organization's mission, values, and policies.
    • Complete additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.
    • Maintain necessary licenses and registrations as applicable.

Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in any field from an accredited institution, or at least 2 years of relevant experience in a professional office environment.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Strong computer skills, particularly in MS Excel and/or Google Sheets.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Personal experience with homelessness, mental health recovery, or the criminal justice system.
  • Experience with forensic or dual-diagnosed populations.
  • Background in interdisciplinary teams within mental health or healthcare settings.
  • Proficiency in Spanish.

Working Conditions

This position is primarily office-based, requiring movement throughout the worksite. The role may involve physical activities such as walking, standing, and lifting light objects.

Mental Requirements

The employee must manage complex tasks, adapt to changing priorities, and maintain professionalism in high-stress situations.
