Hours Per Week: 35 hours per week

Normal Work Schedule:
Monday through Thursday: Base hours

  • Thursdays: 8:30 a.m. to 5:15 p.m.

This role requires leading weekly meetings for two hours on one evening each week while school is in session. Additionally, participation in promotional and outreach activities may be necessary during evenings or weekends.

All staff members are expected to be available for on-call duties for 24-hour periods as part of our Sexual Assault Response Program.

Position Overview: This role focuses on primary prevention and educational initiatives using evidence-based programming across the social-ecological model, targeting both students and adults in areas such as sexual assault, relationship violence, gender-based violence, stalking, and sexual harassment.

The advocate will collaborate closely with community leaders and educational institutions to enhance prevention education within our community. This position also involves providing training on sexual assault prevention and teen dating violence for all staff members, as well as offering advocacy for survivors from a trauma-informed and culturally responsive social justice perspective.

The advocate will respond in-person to Sexual Assault Response Program calls at local emergency facilities and facilitate the SafePlace Peer Education, Action, and Knowledge (SPEAK) teen leadership group. Responsibilities include recruiting, educating, and mentoring this group to present to elementary, middle, and high school students.

Building and managing relationships with local colleges to raise awareness of sexual assault and domestic violence on campuses is also essential. The advocate will attend various fairs and present information to students and staff, while supporting youth residing in shelter through playgroups, advocacy, and educational activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prevention and Youth Education: 75% of the role involves developing, delivering, and maintaining prevention education for sexual assault and teen dating violence, aligned with SafePlace's Strategic Prevention Plan.
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with local schools, universities, and organizations to implement community-level prevention education strategies collaboratively.
  • Maintain outreach and community education with youth-serving partners.
  • Develop culturally responsive materials for youth seeking SafePlace resources and create promotional materials as needed.
  • Conduct ongoing data collection and assess the effectiveness of prevention activities, adapting based on community feedback.
  • Report on prevention activities to leadership and plan community outreach and educational initiatives for grant-specific deliverables.
  • Support youth in shelter by facilitating prevention groups, conducting intake assessments, and connecting them with appropriate services.
  • Advise the agency on providing culturally relevant youth services and assist in advocacy for youth issues.

Sexual Assault Services Program: 25% of the role involves providing crisis intervention and advocacy services to sexual assault survivors, participating in on-call shifts as needed, and documenting services provided.

Qualifications: A high school diploma or GED is required, along with one year of experience in crisis intervention and/or advocacy for sexual and domestic violence survivors. Candidates should possess a demonstrated understanding of these issues, familiarity with the court and law enforcement systems, and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

Successful candidates will have strong organizational skills, the ability to maintain positive working relationships, and a commitment to client confidentiality. Multilingual abilities and experience in public speaking and youth mentorship are advantageous.
