Position Summary

The role involves providing advocacy for sexual assault survivors through a trauma-informed and culturally responsive social justice lens.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the Sexual Assault Program Coordinator to ensure the effective operation of SafePlace's 24/7 Sexual Assault Response Program (SARP).
  • Ensure calendar coverage for SARP on a 24/7 basis.
  • Fill open SARP shifts as necessary.
  • Offer in-person and telephone advocacy for sexual assault survivors.
  • Deliver crisis intervention and advocacy services.
  • Provide medical advocacy and follow-up support for survivors.
  • Assist with legal advocacy for Sexual Assault Protection and Anti-harassment orders.
  • Attend all required direct service and staff meetings.
  • Work closely with the Sexual Assault Program Coordinator to maintain high-quality services.
  • Implement self-care plans to manage compassion fatigue and trauma.
Qualifications

To be successful in this role, candidates must meet the following qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Experience working with diverse communities.
  • Basic administrative skills.
  • Ability to practice self-care in a potentially traumatic work environment.
  • Commitment to addressing issues of oppression.
  • Positive attitude in crisis intervention settings.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals from various socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds.
  • Access to a telephone and transportation.
  • Commitment to confidentiality and SafePlace's philosophy.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
  • Experience in team-oriented environments.
  • Background in non-profit organizations with 24-hour programming.
  • Familiarity with civil and criminal legal systems.
  • Higher education or training in gender, cultural, or therapeutic studies.
  • Completion of SafePlace ACT training.
Training Requirements

Volunteers must complete initial SafePlace ACT Training and on-the-job crisis line training, along with 20 hours of ongoing direct service training annually, which includes advocacy and sexual assault training.

Physical Demands

The physical requirements for this position include regular communication, sitting, using hands, standing, walking, and occasionally lifting up to 30 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.
