Overview
As a pivotal member of our Bridges Team, you will play a crucial role in shaping the infrastructure that connects communities. Your expertise will guide projects from local bridge rehabilitations to landmark designs that enhance regional identity.

Your Role
The Senior Structural Engineer will spearhead engineering teams on significant initiatives. You will be tasked with crafting designs and ensuring the successful execution of transportation projects, which encompass bridges, highway interchanges, roadway reconstruction, subway stations, railroad infrastructure, and public spaces.

This position involves direct oversight, acting as a consultant, and engaging actively as necessary to adhere to timelines and resolve challenges. You will also be expected to contribute to business development and proposal delivery. Under general supervision, you will plan, design, and direct structural engineering projects, managing resources and schedules to meet established deadlines and technical requirements. You will prepare proposals and cost estimates, evaluate project progress, and recommend adjustments to final procedures as needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and seal structural/bridge plans as Engineer of Record (EOR);
  • Supervise the activities of other structural engineers;
  • Coordinate with clients, agencies, and stakeholders to secure structural plan approvals;
  • Oversee and manage the structures team budget;
  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on complex projects, providing technical guidance to team members;
  • Draft technical memoranda for clients or reviewing agencies;
  • Foster client relationships and support business development initiatives.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Proven ability to lead one or more structures teams through all phases of project documentation;
  • Technical proficiency in all relevant design areas and familiarity with various design methodologies;
  • Comprehensive understanding of codes, legal standards, and design requirements applicable in relevant jurisdictions;
  • Proficient in CsiBridge and other pertinent structural design and analysis software;
  • Capability to review the work of others for accuracy and completeness while managing time effectively to meet project budgets and schedules;
  • Understanding of client expectations, budgeting processes, proposal writing, invoicing, and accounts receivable management;
  • Ability to collaborate within a project team, engage in creative and critical thinking, and communicate ideas, design challenges, and solutions effectively.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Structural Engineering or a related discipline;
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in Washington State, or the ability to obtain one. A Washington State Structural Engineer license is preferred;
  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, with a preference for WSDOT project experience.

This position primarily involves office work, with some fieldwork required.
