System One Holdings, LLC is in search of a Lead Engineer specializing in Fuel Handling Systems Design for a long-term contractual engagement. This position offers a hybrid work arrangement. In this capacity, you will be responsible for developing and evaluating design solutions for fuel handling apparatus, structures, and their qualification processes. Proficiency in equipment operation, maintenance, and fabrication is highly regarded.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engineering of nuclear fuel handling systems and apparatus from initial requirements to final design.
  • Assist in the fabrication, construction, and testing phases of systems and equipment.
  • Create system and equipment design documentation including requirements, design descriptions, interface control documents, P&IDs, process flow diagrams, and analytical calculations.
  • Identify and apply relevant design codes in the development of plant systems, including ASME, ANS, ASTM, ASHRAE, IEEE, NFPA, and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Document engineering activities through technical writing of system design descriptions, equipment specifications, design reports, trade studies, and calculations/analyses.
  • Present design outcomes during design review sessions.
  • Evaluate the technical validity of solutions proposed by team members and subcontractors through participation in design reviews.
  • Initiate and support testing programs, overseeing test execution, analysis of results, and reporting.
  • Collaborate with and support licensing efforts related to Safety Analysis Reports.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Systems Engineering is preferred. Other engineering disciplines such as Industrial or Nuclear may be considered with relevant experience. Advanced degrees may substitute for up to two and four years of experience respectively.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in system and/or process design is essential.
  • Previous experience in the nuclear sector, particularly with nuclear fuel handling systems, is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Experience adhering to quality standards in design activities, such as ASME NQA-1 or ISO 9001, is beneficial.
  • Exceptional technical writing, documentation, and communication abilities are required.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a creative approach to challenges.
  • Capability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously throughout the work week.
  • The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated individual capable of coordinating and leading a design team with minimal supervision to address complex challenges.
  • High levels of trust and integrity, open communication, respect, and a commitment to fostering teamwork are essential attributes.
  • The specific level and title for this position will be determined based on a thorough assessment of qualifications.
