ABOUT THE POSITION

The Security Infrastructure team is responsible for developing the foundational security services and libraries that enable Snowflake engineers to deliver a secure Data Cloud experience to our clients. We tackle complex security challenges so that other engineers can focus on innovation. Ensuring security, reliability, and quality is paramount. We seek talented engineers who can quickly grasp intricate technical domains and are passionate about creating cutting-edge technologies.

In this role, you will architect, develop, and maintain software solutions across various domains, including Service Identity, Secret Management, Key Management, and Identity and Authorization. You will play a crucial role in shaping the security infrastructure utilized by engineers throughout the organization. The systems you create must be inherently multi-cloud, exceptionally reliable, and scalable to accommodate Snowflake's extensive and distributed architecture.
AS A LEAD SOFTWARE ENGINEER AT SNOWFLAKE, YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:

  • Designing, developing, and maintaining essential security services, libraries, and frameworks that are both reliable and user-friendly.
  • Creating high-quality, dependable software to support the needs of a rapidly expanding organization in a multi-cloud setting.
  • Identifying and resolving reliability, performance, and scalability challenges within the system.
  • Assessing the security threats faced by Snowflake and its clients, and devising solutions to address them.
  • Collaborating with engineering teams across Snowflake to foster understanding and empathy for their requirements.
  • Partnering with security, engineering, and product teams to establish and refine internal security practices and protocols.
  • Leading and managing project priorities, timelines, and deliverables.
OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL POSSESS:
  • 6+ years of relevant experience in software engineering.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Expertise in Golang or Java programming languages.
  • Familiarity with development in a Linux environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Exceptional problem-solving abilities, along with a solid foundation in computer science principles, including data structures, algorithms, and distributed systems.
  • Proficiency in systems programming, including multi-threading and concurrency.
  • Experience in design, implementation, testing, debugging, and documentation processes.
  • Experience leading project teams and defining technical direction.
  • Experience managing projects that involve multiple teams across various organizations.
  • Ability to work on-site as required.
ADDITIONAL PREFERENCES INCLUDE:
  • A Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field.
  • Experience in building and maintaining highly reliable and scalable GRPC services.
  • Experience in developing and supporting developer-facing libraries and frameworks.
  • Experience with workload orchestration systems such as Kubernetes for deploying and managing services at scale.
  • Experience utilizing infrastructure as code tools like Terraform and Pulumi for managing production environments.
  • Experience in building secret management, key management, identity, and related services.
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, and GCP for developing production services.
  • Experience in building or managing public key infrastructure (PKI).
