Our innovations are implemented throughout the Amazon Fulfillment Network, streamlining material flow to minimize costs, boost throughput, and ensure consistent quality.

Our workcells are part of comprehensive solutions for the storage, packaging, sorting, and transportation of items and packages. The team comprises engineers and scientists who oversee new product introductions from initial technology exploration to large-scale deployment.

Amazon Robotics is on the lookout for a Lead Systems Engineer to join our dynamic team, providing direction for concept development, architecture, and design of robotic systems and industrial machinery.

In this position, you will:
  • Define, expand, and explore the design landscape for intricate, multidisciplinary robotics and automation challenges.
  • Identify and evaluate the cross-functional trade-offs among design options, considering performance, timeline, cost, risk, complexity, and scalability.
  • Deconstruct and frame challenges using operational concepts, use cases, structural/functional breakdowns, and other system representations to clarify requirements and align technical teams.
  • Determine design choices to guarantee our products are safe, reliable, user-friendly, and can be deployed and supported at Amazon's scale.
  • Create quantitative models and analyses (using Excel, MATLAB, Python, and internal tools) to conduct trade studies, refine requirements, and comprehend key system drivers across integrated systems.
  • Conduct technical risk assessments (such as TRL, Gap Analysis, FMEDA, HARA, etc.), develop mitigation strategies, and formulate system testing plans.
  • Develop and communicate strategies and plans for system integration and evaluation to support program learning, technical risk mitigation, verification, and validation.
  • Lead and prioritize the execution of system testing campaigns that encompass both laboratory and field testing environments in collaboration with subsystem development and testing teams (including test readiness reviews, execution, and post-test analysis).
  • Guide junior engineers in best engineering practices and contribute to the recruitment of new team members.

Basic Qualifications
  • Experience in eliciting and clarifying business and end-user requirements, connecting those needs to system concepts, specifications, and designs.
  • Proven track record in leading technical collaborations and fostering alignment across diverse groups (e.g., hardware engineering, software engineering, program management).
  • Experience in identifying and analyzing dependencies, trade-offs, and sensitivities across multidisciplinary systems.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, Operations Research, Mathematics, Physics, or another STEM discipline.
  • 7+ years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with industrial robotics and automated material handling solutions.
  • Familiarity with machine learning systems.
  • Experience in developing and supporting hardware/software systems throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Experience with scalable production systems.
  • Background in developing safety-critical systems and addressing related regulatory compliance needs.
  • Experience in one or more relevant domains: Industrial Automation, Robotic Vehicles/Manipulation, Autonomy, Perception, and Controls.
  • 9+ years of experience in integrated system design.
