Position Title: Research Administrator II

Job Classification: Staff Full-Time

Department: MD-PSYCHIATRY

Role Overview:

Pre-Award Responsibilities:

The Research Administrator II is tasked with leading the creation and submission of grant proposals for sponsored programs. This includes the preparation and refinement of financial plans and narratives, ensuring compliance with all application requirements under tight deadlines.

Collaborate with faculty to identify potential funding opportunities, providing guidance on proposal development as necessary. Evaluate agency guidelines to ensure adherence to submission protocols. Engage with various electronic proposal platforms and coordinate with essential offices. Work in partnership with Principal Investigators (PIs) to develop comprehensive budgets that encompass personnel costs, project expenditures, and facility expenses.

Ensure all proposals receive the necessary departmental approvals, acting as a liaison with the College of Medicine and other academic units.


Manage award releases in electronic systems, including sub-awards and project modifications. Initiate payroll distributions aligned with budgetary confirmations from PIs. Oversee post-award adjustments requiring sponsor consent. Facilitate modifications in electronic systems for project updates, budget reallocations, and monitoring of sub-awards. Assist in the transition of grants from other institutions for newly appointed faculty. Prepare annual space utilization reports and manage effort reporting. Regularly update and present monthly reports to faculty regarding project status and projections for effective management and recruitment.

Compensation:
Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Essential Qualifications:
Research Administrator I - Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.

Research Administrator II - Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of two years of experience in grant and contract management; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.


Preferred Skills:

Proficiency in grant writing, prior research experience, and familiarity with grant regulations, contract negotiations, and the Internal Review Board (IRB) processes. Strong ability to interpret and apply grant and contract guidelines and regulations. Excellent verbal and written communication capabilities.

Knowledge of relevant university, state, and federal regulations, policies, and procedures regarding extramural grants and research contracts.
