GENERAL OVERVIEW

The role involves providing assistance to educators in the development and implementation of instructional materials for the classroom environment. Responsibilities include aiding in the planning and execution of educational activities, as well as supervising and monitoring students. Additional clerical duties may be assigned, along with various instructional tasks such as supporting physical education, library functions, and academic evaluations. The position also entails preparing and utilizing instructional media effectively.

The assistant will help administer standardized assessment tools, working with individual students and groups on practice drills and testing procedures. They will also assist in operating educational media and engage with students in various drills and exercises.

In this capacity, the individual will support instructional activities and contribute to the implementation of teaching methodologies while utilizing instructional media. The role involves working with students in diverse educational settings and relieving educators of specific instructional tasks. A designated Teacher Aide III may occasionally be assigned to serve as a testing administrator.

WORK LEVELS:

Teacher Aide I: Engages in entry-level to routine educational support tasks under moderate supervision, allowing limited initiative and independent judgment.

Teacher Aide II: Performs moderately complex educational support duties under general supervision, with a moderate degree of initiative and independent judgment.

Teacher Aide III: Engages in highly complex educational support functions under limited supervision, exercising considerable initiative and independent judgment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervise students in designated areas, ensuring adherence to established expectations.
  • Prepare instructional materials for student use as scheduled.
  • Facilitate classroom learning by presenting subject matter under the guidance of teachers.
  • Provide support to students with diverse needs in a correctional educational setting.
  • Tutor and assist students to reinforce learning concepts.
  • Administer assessments as directed and adhere to testing protocols.
  • Compile data for student progress evaluations as assigned.
  • Assist educators with grading, record-keeping, and classroom management.
  • Help maintain student discipline and accountability in accordance with facility guidelines.
  • Provide additional support to students with special needs as required.
  • Report any observed disparities related to race, ethnicity, or gender.
  • Perform various related duties as assigned.

WORKPLACE SAFETY: All duties must be performed in compliance with agency safety policies, including reporting hazards and completing necessary documentation in case of incidents.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Teacher Aide I: High School diploma or equivalent; must obtain Texas Education Agency (TEA) certification as an Educational Aide I within six months of employment.

Teacher Aide II: High School diploma or equivalent; must have three years of experience as an Educational Aide I or equivalent educational qualifications.

Teacher Aide III: High School diploma or equivalent; must have three years of experience as an Educational Aide I or II or relevant college coursework.
