GENERAL OVERVIEW

The role involves providing support to educators in the development and execution of instructional materials tailored for the classroom environment. Responsibilities include assisting in the planning and execution of educational activities, as well as supervising and monitoring student behavior. The position may also encompass various clerical tasks and instructional duties, which may involve physical education, library services, and academic evaluations. Additionally, the role includes preparing and utilizing educational media effectively.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

- Assist in administering standardized assessments, working with individual students and groups on practice drills and testing procedures.

- Support instructional activities and help implement teaching strategies while utilizing educational media. Collaborate with students in diverse educational experiences, relieving the educator of specific instructional tasks.

- A Teacher Aide III may be designated to take on additional responsibilities such as serving as a TABE administrator and GED proctor when necessary.

LEVELS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

Teacher Aide I: Engages in entry-level to routine educational support tasks under moderate supervision, exercising limited initiative and independent judgment.

Teacher Aide II: Handles moderately complex educational support responsibilities with general supervision, allowing for moderate initiative and independent judgment.

Teacher Aide III: Manages highly complex educational support tasks under limited supervision, demonstrating considerable initiative and independent judgment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

- Supervise students in designated areas as assigned, ensuring adherence to established guidelines. (40%)

- Arrive at assigned locations punctually and prepare materials for instructional use. (5%)

- Facilitate learning activities by presenting subject matter under the guidance of educators, utilizing various instructional methods. (5%)

- Provide support to potentially challenging youth in a correctional context, addressing a range of behavioral and emotional needs. (5%)

- Tutor and assist students, both individually and in small groups, to reinforce learning objectives. (10%)

- Administer assessments as scheduled and adhere to testing protocols. (5%)

- Compile data for student progress evaluations as directed and actively participate in review meetings. (5%)

- Assist educators with instructional tasks, grading, record-keeping, and classroom management. (10%)

- Help maintain discipline among students and ensure compliance with classroom rules. (5%)

- Provide additional support to students with special needs as required. (5%)

- Report any observed disparities related to race, ethnicity, or gender.

- Perform various related duties as assigned.

- Adhere to safety policies and procedures, including reporting hazards and completing necessary documentation in case of incidents.

- Maintain regular attendance in accordance with agency policies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Teacher Aide I: High School diploma or equivalent. Must possess or obtain a current Texas Education Agency (TEA) certification as an Educational Aide I within six months of employment. One year of relevant experience in child care or a related field is required.

Teacher Aide II: High School diploma or equivalent. Requires three years of experience as an Educational Aide I or relevant college coursework in child development. Must hold or obtain TEA certification as an Educational Aide II within six months of employment.

Teacher Aide III: High School diploma or equivalent. Requires three years of experience as an Educational Aide I or II, or relevant college coursework. Must hold or obtain TEA certification as an Educational Aide III within six months of employment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

The physical demands and working conditions associated with this role include effective communication skills, the ability to see and hear, and the capacity to perform various physical tasks such as lifting and restraining students when necessary.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

- Knowledge of state and federal special education regulations.

- Skills in using computers and standard office equipment.

- Ability to work collaboratively with staff and effectively supervise students.
