Job Overview

Key Responsibilities

Core duties include:

  • Oversee the daily construction of forward curves for a diverse array of power futures contracts.
  • Refine pricing methodologies through in-depth analysis of the underlying physical markets.
  • Examine extensive datasets, generate reports for senior management, and develop tools to streamline workflows.
  • Conduct thorough research and synthesize data from various sources, including internal metrics, model outputs, and market research, to evaluate the competitive landscape and support the creation of new power contracts and services.
  • Formulate and evaluate risk management strategies for client portfolios, including pricing and risk management models for existing and new power derivative contracts.
  • Address inquiries from both internal stakeholders (senior management and the Board) and external parties (clients and regulators) regarding exchange operations.
Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will demonstrate meticulous attention to detail and the capability to distill broader patterns and business logic into actionable recommendations that support business development and risk management. Our operations are data-centric, necessitating strong analytical and quantitative abilities. A solid understanding of power markets, including financial transmission rights (FTR), power spot markets, and power derivatives, is essential. Previous experience in financial risk management is advantageous.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in quantitative finance, economics, statistics, applied mathematics, engineering, or a related field.
  • Over 6 years of experience in quantitative analytical roles, preferably within financial services.
  • At least 3 years of experience in power markets, focusing on power spot market and FTR market analysis.
  • Exceptional quantitative skills.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python or R (at least one is required).
  • Strong problem-solving capabilities.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Attention to detail.

Preferred:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering with a focus on power systems.
  • Experience in operating power flow models and conducting power grid analysis.
Compensation

Salary Range: $120,000-$180,000 per year base salary, annualized. Pay transparency notice: The salary range is reflective of the D.C. metro area, and the successful candidate's starting salary will vary based on qualifications, skills, and experience. Nodal Exchange also provides a comprehensive benefits package for full-time employees, which may include target bonuses.
