Acute Care Nurse Practitioner in Trauma

We also lead in transplant services with one of the largest kidney and pancreas transplant programs in the nation.
Position OverviewThe R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center is currently seeking an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to become an integral member of our multidisciplinary team focused on the management of complex trauma cases. In this role, you will be essential to the trauma care continuum, overseeing patients from their initial admission through to discharge and subsequent follow-up.
Key Responsibilities:- Engage in a dynamic academic environment
- Collaborate with a distinguished team of trauma specialists
- Contribute to the world's first facility dedicated to shock treatment
- Participate in research initiatives and academic projects
- Primarily focus on inpatient care with some outpatient responsibilities
- Manage patients in both intermediate care and acute settings
- Provide coverage from Monday to Sunday, during daytime hours only, with no night shifts required
Clinical Competencies:
- Exhibit a comprehensive understanding of trauma physiology and the management of significant medical comorbidities
- Conduct thorough histories and physical examinations tailored to clinical presentations
- Order and interpret relevant diagnostic evaluations
- Formulate, implement, and assess the effectiveness of care plans
- Oversee general medical and surgical conditions while understanding associated risks and benefits
- Collaborate with trauma surgeons based on patient conditions, recognizing personal strengths and limitations
- Facilitate coordinated care and maintain clear communication among all team members
- Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills for effective collaboration
- Provide compassionate counseling to patients and families regarding injuries and treatment processes
- Ensure precise documentation within the electronic medical record system

- Contribute to the education of advanced practice provider students, medical students, and residents
