Position Overview
The R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center at the University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC) is in search of a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant specializing in Orthopaedic Trauma care. As a member of the trauma team, you will play a crucial role in managing patient care from admission to discharge.
This role involves working four 10-hour shifts with rotating schedules.

The NP/PA will conduct comprehensive evaluations, assessments, and interpret clinical data to deliver care to patients with orthopaedic injuries. This position involves collaboration with a multidisciplinary team. Our Orthopaedics Department is a referral center for patients throughout Maryland and beyond. The role includes responsibilities in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct patient interviews to gather health histories and perform thorough physical examinations.
- Order and assess necessary diagnostic and laboratory tests.
- Document health histories, progress notes, and treatment plans accurately.
- Serve as a liaison between patients and healthcare providers to ensure coordinated care, including pre- and post-operative management.
- Provide care in both clinical and hospital environments.
- Engage in multidisciplinary quality improvement and service enhancement meetings.
Essential Requirements:
- Education/Training – Completion of a Physician Assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) is required. A Bachelor's degree or a Master of Science degree with a Nurse Practitioner Program completion is necessary.
- Experience – Prior experience is preferred but not mandatory. New graduates are welcome to apply.
- License/Certification – Certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) is required. A current license with the Maryland Board of Physicians or registration with the Maryland Board of Nursing as a Nurse Practitioner in the relevant specialty is necessary.
- Must possess a CRNP - Acute Care or PA-C license.
