Position Overview

The R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center at the University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC) is in search of a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant specializing in the care of Orthopaedic Trauma patients. As a member of our esteemed trauma team, you will play a crucial role in managing patient care from initial assessment through to discharge.

This role consists of four 10-hour shifts, with a rotating schedule.

*New graduates with relevant Orthopaedic experience are encouraged to consider this opportunity*

The NP/PA will conduct comprehensive evaluations, interpret clinical data, and deliver care to patients with orthopaedic injuries. You will collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team to ensure optimal patient outcomes. Our Orthopaedics Department serves as a key referral center for patients throughout the region, and your responsibilities will include both inpatient and outpatient care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough patient interviews to gather health histories and perform physical examinations.
  • Order and assess necessary diagnostic and laboratory tests.
  • Document health assessments, progress notes, and treatment plans effectively.
  • Serve as a liaison between patients and healthcare providers to coordinate comprehensive care, including pre- and post-operative management.
  • Provide care in both clinical and hospital environments.
  • Engage in multidisciplinary meetings focused on quality improvement and service enhancement.
Qualifications

Essential Requirements:

  • Education/Training – Completion of a Physician Assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or a Master of Science degree with a Nurse Practitioner Program.
  • Experience – Prior experience is preferred but not mandatory; new graduates are welcome to apply.
  • License/Certification – Certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) and a current license with the Maryland Board of Physicians, or a Registered Nurse license with the Maryland Board of Nursing, along with Nurse Practitioner certification in the relevant specialty.
  • Must possess a CRNP - Acute Care or PA-C license.
