Position Overview

The R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center is currently seeking an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to become an integral member of a multidisciplinary team focused on the management of complex trauma cases. In this role, you will play a crucial part in delivering continuous care for patients from their initial admission through to discharge and subsequent follow-up.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Engage in a collaborative academic environment
  • Contribute to a dynamic multidisciplinary team
  • Work alongside distinguished trauma specialists in a pioneering facility
  • Participate in research initiatives and academic projects
  • Primarily focus on inpatient care with opportunities for outpatient clinic involvement
  • Oversee patient management in both Intermediate Care and acute settings
  • Provide coverage from Monday to Sunday, during daytime hours only, with no night shifts required
Qualifications:

Clinical Competencies:

  • Possess a deep understanding of trauma physiology and the management of significant medical comorbidities
  • Conduct thorough histories and physical examinations relevant to clinical presentations
  • Order and interpret necessary diagnostic evaluations
  • Formulate, implement, and assess the effectiveness of care plans
  • Manage both medical and surgical conditions while recognizing associated risks and benefits
  • Collaborate effectively with trauma surgeons based on patient conditions, demonstrating self-awareness of strengths and limitations
  • Facilitate coordinated care and maintain clear communication among all team members
  • Exhibit excellent interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with medical, surgical, nursing, and ancillary staff
  • Provide compassionate counseling to patients and families regarding injuries, treatments, and processes
  • Ensure accurate documentation within the electronic medical record system
